As I can too. At school when we're working on computers, my friend starts talking to me, I look over whilst typing and he just looks dumfounded. It's pretty funny...

Then my mom walks into my room, I look at her, continuing typing and all she can say is "What the?"

I took typing classes in school and much later trained as a typesetter so yeah, I can type without looking at the keys. The first typesetting system I learned on didn't even have a screen so you had to keep track of the coding in your head (this was just before the advent of WYSIWYG interfaces).

Most good typists can actually hold a conversation, watch TV etc. while typing since the conscious portion of the mind is not actually doing the work, your fingers are sorta going it alone. Although it's very impressive to non typists it's not that much different in principle to tuning the radio while driving which most people don't think twice about.

It's just as I've always said, if you have a 1337 G4M3R K3YB04RD that has a backlight so you can see the keys while you play then you need to stop playing computer games.

I learned how to touch-type at the age of 7 from a little Mac game called Mario Teaches Typing!  By 7th grade I easily passed 90 words a minute, leading my computer lab monitor to believe I was hacking the Mavis Beacon program we used to measure typing speeds.   Nowadays I'm in the 100-110 wpm range, maybe 120 if I want to break a sweat

Funny how after a year behind the QWERTY keyboard, I knew where every letter, number, and symbol was, but after a year of piano playing my eyes were on my fingers 99% of the time...Go figure.
