Starting a car

I have a car i need to pickup.

The lock cylinder only goes to the on position but won't go to start.

There is no way to push with a enough momentum to pop the clutch.

Is there a way to start it using a set of jumper cables and messing with the starter directly?

^^ Ya that was what I was gonna say. Try turning it left and right, whichever way it seems to turn easier do what jord said.

Sounds like one of two things.

Key is too worn or you broke/worn out the lock cylinder.

Put car in neutral. Pop open the little compartment under the steering wheel. Find the red wires (red is usually power). Disconnect them, strip ends and reconnect by twisting. Dashboard lights should go on. Find starter wire (usually brown). Strip end of wire (do not touch--we like jsnipy alive) and tap it on the exposed part of the red, leaving it in contact until car starts. Sparks are normal.

Once the car's been started, disconnect the live wires, and replace ingintion cover.

Hope it works.

It'll start the car, thus achieving the objective set out in the OP. If he has possession of the car, it's not illegal.

He can't put the car in neutral as the steering column is locked.

What you need to do is pull off an iginition wire, stick it in your mouth, hold onto the engine with both hands and then have a buddy jump the starter solenoid. It'll start.

The solenoid, it's always the solenoid.
