I've been to Belgium a long time ago, it's not bad. Nice chocolate. Nothing too special, but it's not really a shithole, my opinion of Belgium is it's a pointless country and the French half should be annexed by France and the Dutch half annexed by Netherlands.

I go to Brussels regularly due to family being there; it's not that interesting at this time of year. It's amazing at New Years, with all the stalls in the market and the atmosphere really is fantastic. It's truly beautiful at that time of year, but at any other time it's pretty normal.
Awesome food if you go to the small restaurants down the little lanes in the centre of town (you'll see one of the waiters always standing outside giving you a little talk on how awesome the food is etc). Bruges is definitely a place to see, especially if it's sunny. It's not truly fantastic, but there are some lovely places in it, and the chocolatiers are fucking awesome. If they see you're a tourist, they'll throw in awesome deals.
Also, make sure you go to the chocolatiers in the suburban areas around Brussels and the butchers if you want some real special food. If I could remember the suburban area where my family are based in, I'd tell you, because it's quite beautiful and full of life.
Make sure you buy some filet américain (unless you've already tried it in The Netherlands).

I was a bit disappointed when i visited Brussels in 2008. Its like you dont see white people on the streets. Only strange faced black, yellow and what ever colored people. Man i thought im in bronx or wtf. I have to say i was scared when i saw like 5 or 8 black guys standing on the sidewalk.
I even changed to the opposite site, i thought om when will they get a knife from their pocket and rob me out
I liked the Jubel park btw, great museums what you can visit there. Also the Atomium was cool in real life.
