Purely aesthetics and build quality (for the keyboard anyway), with mice, the high DPI and acceleration does make a noticeable difference.

What I can't understand is people buying gaming rigs then getting cheap shit looking peripherals, that make the whole thing look cheap and shit

Haha yeah.. I don't know why anyone would need the 5700 setting anyway lol. I'm used to the 3200DPI from the G9.  They were out of the G9s so G9X was the only thing they could send.

I bought the keyboard solely for the backlit keys
I like the feel of the 518 and like the on the fly DPI changing in some games.
