My two friends (bf & gf) went there last spring break I think. Maybe it was the summer. They stayed at a small place at a surfer community. They took surfing lessons everyday and got to explore the non resort side of Puerto Rico.

the golf is amazing
there's the rainforest, El Yunque - southeast of San Juan.
if i were to go back to Puerto Rico, i'd spend more time in the old part of San Juan. they have casinos, and a street fair where i bought Cuban cigars. we even saw where they had a cockfighting ring . . .
