I'm looking to upgrade from my old dual core pos.

I used to be very avid in my knowledge of what to buy. But i havent been up to date with the i5 and i7 and all the new video cards. I'm just gonna give you guys a budget and general knowledge of what i want and hopefully you can find it

- $500 Budget
- Motherboard with 4+ gigs capability and 5.1 audio
- 4 Gigs of ram
- Video card with HMDI out and the ability to run all of todays games with no problem.
   - DX11 capable??? Idk but i dont wanna buy a card then buy another for DX11

What i dont need...

- Hard drive
- Operating system
- Case
- Cooling
- DVD drive

~I believe i have a single rail 550 watt PSU. Should i upgrade to support all of this?

$500 won't get you an i5 and decent GPU tbh

We should have one common thread where the OP keeps updating a list of recommendations, prices, performance and links to the latest charts.

Nah mate, I don't have time for that stuff anymore.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
