The more quiet, the closer you can get without/before beeing spotted...11 Bravo wrote:
hmmm.....is this needed? i knew an a-10 pilot who was trying to provide cover for a downed pilot in serbia and ran out of ammo. but, he stayed on station until help arrived. he would dive down and point his nose at the enemy (even though he had no ammo) and they would scatter. got the flying cross or something like that for it. point is seems like this is not needed tbh.
meh.....how about weapons you can just fire from further away, eh?FloppY_ wrote:

I'm sure Delta Force and the Rangers wouldn't mind a more stealthy insertion.11 Bravo wrote:

Mate, all helicopters are not gunships... fyi11 Bravo wrote:

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me.11 Bravo wrote:

Better than what, about what? Your story was completely irrelevant to the topic.11 Bravo wrote:

actually no...it was not. everyone has a hard on about silent helos, but a big loud gun can do just as well. fucking dumb fuck.mikkel wrote:

Actually, it wasn't. He speaks from personal experience, not from hours logged as a chopper pilot on a video game.mikkel wrote:

Do what just as well? What, you think some guys sat down and said "alright, we need to really intimidate the enemy with a show of force, so let's make a helicopter that's lightly armed and totally quiet"? Are you suggesting that the A-10 and the Eurocopter Tiger are meant to fill out identical roles, and face the same threats while doing so? Hell, why use helicopters at all? We've got A-10s!11 Bravo wrote:

He speaks from second hand experience about providing air support for ground troops in an heavy fixed wing aircraft. You're posting about quiet rotor technology for helicopters and their value on gunships used for insertion. Unless you've heard of using A-10s for quiet insertion, I don't see the relevance at all.ATG wrote:

As a gunship, as an insertion tool, there is no argument that quieter is not better.
I would assume ATG is talking about sticking these new rotors on current helicopters, not giving the po-po a bunch of Eurocopters.11 Bravo wrote:
i like the idea of UAV's and Sat's. I think these helos are a waste. as for the police.....i guess it could help but thats a lot of tax money.
actually i have had first hand experience in CAS from helos and aircraft. but so have you i bet so yes, keep talking.mikkel wrote:
