Cheaters usually are dorky people that lack skill, but rarely there are ones that find ways to improve their points/kills by their own. I'm against cheaters, but going in a chopper against foot soldiers is like cheatin', what do you think?

Cheating was cool on the NES, SNES, SEGA GENESIS, SEGA SATURN, PLAYSTATION, DREAMCAST, SEGA CD, N64, GameCube, Playstation2, X-box......

Actually, some cheaters are highly skilled in C++, VB, and other programming..well programs.  The peeps that are lame are the ones that go looking for cheats and have no clue how they are made.  Those are the worst kind of closet cheaters.  I have a background in programming(mostly VB and a little of C++) but I choose to play the game the right way because it is just the right thing to do.  I know some people think cheaters are nothing more than kids who sit at home all day with nothing to do.  Sometimes that is the case.  Some times not.  I know of several peeps, in my Network classes, that are older than I, and can program anything if they really wanted to.  I really hate cheaters but I won't get upset if I see someone cheating.  I will just find another server because I won't let someone in a videogame get me upset.  They choose to play the game the way they want to just like everyone else does.  There is no need for people to get pissed off and what not.  Just report the suspected person/s to the proper people and let them handle it and move on.  I just don't see the point in getting pissed off because someone is cheating.  I know there are 1000's of other servers available.  Even on our server, I will just ask one of our Admins to look at someone.  If they are caught doing whatever, they get the boot and banned.  Simple as that.

If anybody remembers an old game called Jedi Knight (1), they'll remember its open-ended code. All you had to do was adjust a few things without violating the CRC, and you could go into a multiplayer game. Hack wars became a way of life. Often, benevolent cheaters would join a game just to ref against cheaters with less skill, sometimes ejecting them outside of the map (Force Hell).

Those were the days...

Lucasarts, as well as other companies, have been horrified that their code had been modified in such a manner, and have (for the most part), tied up all loose ends in their code, making it nigh inaccessable. So sad, but I can see the reason.

Depends on how you approach cheating. If you're aimbotting just to get easier kills and better stats online, then yes. If you want to experiment with a certain aspect of, say, an RPG without investing 20 hours in character development, then no. Viable conditions for cheating/hacking (at least for me):

Offline

1. Already played the game through. Just want to screw around now.
2. Interested in what an RPG build would be like. A dozen hours saved just by editing a newbie character offline. No real sense of accomplishment, but a gain in knowledge of game mechanics.
3. A poorly-tested game has a certain area impossible to get by without going into noclipping mode. Or broken events require console-triggered completion to progress.
4. Game is so boring that it requires a bit of spice to be worth playing.
5. Cool effects, such as slow motion in Soldier of Fortune, may be enabled within the console. Try recording it with fraps and speeding it back up. Matrix reflexes...
6. Want to get to a certain map, and you've already done everything before? Warp.

1. To deflate another cheater's ego and get kudos/cookies from the legit people.
2. Scripting a bot to automatically level an RPG character while unattended. I've never needed to do this, as I don't feel the need to have a max level character in anything. However, I can see why people would do this to save a few hundred hours, due to otherwise busy schedules. Still going to get you an account (if said game operates in that fashion) ban if you are ever found out.

Cheaters are just boring losers, how fun is it to play if you shall cheat? Cheaters is as misunderstood as herpes, you may not want it, but it comes like a bad suprise if you has lot of fun.
