Check my flickr link in my sig for Canon photos. Hockey and football pics included.

All hockey pics were taken with a 70-200mm Sigma 2.8 lens.

if you are being serious, I agree with you.  The peel apart Polaroid film can make for some very beautiful photography prints.

Right now Amazon has the Nikon D3000 for $456.88 delivered, no sales tax (depending on your location).

This, lol..

I'd say Canon, cause I'm a Canon shooter..

The best advice would be to go to the store and ask if you can play around with the cameras. Whatever feels more comfortable..
This. Just try them.

There is actually a trend now.. Photographers are breaking out their old (non digital SLRs). Since it cost more to use film I think it makes you prepare and think more. The results are earned. They might be looking to get high off of dark room chemicals also. .

Wouldn't a Nikon D80 / EOS 450D be better entry-level SLRs ?

More mistakes = more learning.

I'd rather take 10 shots of the same thing and get one great result for free, than 1 shot of 1 thing and pay for 1 mediocre result.

I've done about 4 years of SLR, and 3 years of DSLR. I'm glad I learned on an SLR, but a DSLR will always be my main.

in all honesty i barely ever use my xti anymore, i only use it to walk around with at school for that stuff since the 1D/1Ds is a fucking neckbreaker.

id rather have the 450d over an xsi because 1) video on a still camera is gay and 2) i like the scroll wheel

Yup.  10 years SLR (Minolta), followed by almost 10 years of DSLR (Canon).  Although I shoot more per session with my DSLR, I also shot a lot with my film SLR.  Simply because with film, you can't be 100% sure about your shots no matter how good or prepared you are.  Film was relatively cheap.  Developing them was the PITA.

If it has live view I think this will allow it to shoot video.

Needless to say its not practical in every situation. But good for time-lapse.

nice find, thanks - there was a firmware hack, for this camera and the 50D i think. i didn't want to chance it.

for the record, video from the 7D is fun to play with. i don't think i've done more than 12 seconds at one time.
