am i missing someting or is it just annoying when you set your controls for a heli when you get a message saying that the key that you are trying to set is already in use and its for a completley differnet vehicle. Is there a way to remedy this?

secondly. i have a very unique key config

Forward   -        Right mouse click
Backward  -       Left Alt Key
Strafe left   -      A
Strafe right  -     D
Jump -               S
Alternative fire - W
Shoot Primary  -  Left mouse click
Crouch           -   X
Prone         -       Z
Cycle Weapons -  F or Space Bar

id like to have to ability to use my left Alt key for something else. id like to use it for backpedaling but it turns out i cant use alt. and when i try switching S as my backpedal, it wont let me unless i change my forward to a non mouse button.

whats up with that??

I think you might beat voodoo for crazy key configs.. oh yeah back to the subject - only way I've found to get around that is to edit the config file by hand because some of the keys that are set don't seem to appear in the menu.

They just hate us with custom key binds

ive tried O.G. WASD conrols, but i just dont like space bar as my jump. especially for games like HL where you gotta crouch jump. hitting jump and then crouch can be done easily in a swift single finger motion. these controls work suprisingly well for all FPS games that ive played. but yes back to the subject.

what are the commands to manually setting the controls. i tried searching but i couldnt get any hits. honestly, ive been playing bf2 without a backpedal. i either turn 180 degrees and run or i turn 90 degrees and strafe.

and what are voodoo's controls like?

Forward   -         T
Backward  -       G
Strafe left   -      Z

Alternative fire - Mouse 2
Shoot Primary  - Mouse 1
Crouch           -  D
Prone         -      A
Cycle Weapons -  None (I use the number keys for specific weapons)

As for your setup, editing your controls.con file is the only way to get it done as shrtcww stated.

I dunno how you first two can even play that way.

I use the arrow keys, the 6 buttons above the arrow keys, the whole numberpad, and some other random keys. I don't like to be cramped.

U can't use left alt to anything else 'cos it's for enabling/disabling 3D maps

To the OP, some times you can't bind alternate keys to the primary position and have to make them secondary.  Some times you have to remove the primary (default) bind and put your new bind in as secondary.  Because this has been an issue since BF1942, I always keep my config backed up, because making changes to the way I like is a PITA.

Although, I do still run a pretty old school config.  Like you I use the right mouse as forward, and my left mouse button to fire.  Until I got my Z-Board I used the arrow keys between the 10-key pad and main keys.  I used stuff like Delete, End, Page Up/Down as alternage key functions.  With the Z-Board I use the WASD because the layout essentially mirrors my arrow key config.  However, W is set as my prone key, and Q as alternate fire.

Yup,I guess it's somewhat like my setup, arrow keys plus the surrounding keys, the "delete block" above the arrow keys is used for vehicle positions, ctrl and shift is for jump and crouch, numpad is for stuff like commo rose,reload,nightvision,etc..

And I use a key as a alternative for the left mouse button so I can fire without moving the mouse, that's absolutely great for long distance sniper kills.
