If it's good enough, I might get this instead of the 4th Gen iPhone. My 3G's contract is up in July.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Sony will release a new smart phone "capable of downloading and playing PlayStation games" later this year, as well as a competitor to Apple's iPad that may also play PSone titles.

The Journal notes that the original PlayStation game-playing smart phone is being developed by Sony and mobile handset manufacturer Sony Ericsson. That's a story that we've heard plenty of times before in various incarnations, but with declining PSP sales, a cool reception to the digital download-only PSPgo, and increasing competition from iPhone and iPod gaming, the timing sounds logical.

Sony's other device that "blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation Portable," according to the Wall Street Journal, is targeted for a 2010 launch.

But can it make phone calls?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Hmm... can see it already. Cross media bar interface. Performance hopefully on par with the PSP or even better. Should be interesting.

You would seriously buy another iphone?

I have had mine for over a year now and it is just shit. Always crashing (ipod/safari even!) and the loudspeaker just mysteriously stopped working. Often randomly freezes as well.

I dont treat my things badly, I never threw it around or anything. It just started falling apart after the warranty was up. The silent/not silent switch on the side also just broke off when I was getting it out of my pocket.

Fuck that shit.

Derail over, it looks like it could be alright. Personally I am looking forward to a WinPho7 handset.

Eh... I've seen windows phones, and they are trash. Unless this has alot of improvements in the firmware that simply say wow to me, i dont see it in my pocket.

Nexus One however... Looks saucy.
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.

Tazz, you really need to look at WinPho7. That OS looks really nice, definitely seems like MS is on the ball with this one. Full integration with Xbox LIve and Zune is already in the works and those two things alone will be big sellers for users in the US.

Except that the touchscreen on it is rubbish. If you get a touchscreen phone, it needs to have a sensitive, accurate touchpad or the whole UI becomes crap. Doesn't matter how well designed or how functional or how powerful it is, with a crap UI it's crap to use.

You've seen existing Windows Phones, with the unanimous consensus that they suck.

Also Zune.

The touchscreen isn't the best, but it's very far from 'rubbish'. A bigger problem than the screen is the implementation of touch (in)sensitive buttons underneath it, but with daily use you learn how to make the screen do what you want the first time around.

I haven't used the touchscreen on the Nexus One, but the screen on my HTC Magic works beautifully.

I have and tbh I have no idea what these guys are talking about. It's spot on. I wonder if they have actually tried it. .. cause I really I can't agree with the "it's rubbish" opinion.
