Directing will be interesting, since Bigelow is Cameron's ex-wife.

I reckon Avatar will win a few though.

My top 5 for the year:

1. Avatar
2. Inglourious Basterds
3. The Hurt Locker
4. Star Trek
5. Up

It's really so hard to pick for directing. Quentin Tarantino did such an amazing job with Inglourious Basterds but Kathryn Bigelow did PHENOMENAL with The Hurt Locker. I'm taking a Great Moral Questions class this semester and we're going to be watching The Hurt Locker due to how accurate it is. Even EOD people say it's the most accurate depiction of the war. Best original screenplay definitely goes to Inglourious Basterds though. The whole idea of a revenge fantasy is just too good to give up.

However, for best picture I just had to give it to The Hurt Locker as much as I loved Inglourious Basterds and Avatar. It had the best all around presence.

Oh and if Christoph Waltz doesn't win best supporting actor I will throw something at my TV.

On a more serious note, I really need to watch The Hurt Locker, somehow it didn't come to any cinemas in Belfast.

How come Avatar didn't get nominated for any of the 'Writing' awards?

After just coming back from Up In The Air I reconfirm my pick of Anna Kendrick for best supporting actress. Phenomenal.

OUt of all of those I've seen "District 9" and "Avatar".

Thought "Mary + Max" deserved at least a nomination for best animation. Oh well.

Up is superior to all the other animated movies mentioned m8.

Especially the first 10 minutes.

As Dauntless said, same shit as Pocahontas.

Most Euros wouldn't know The Hurt Locker because it's an independent film and didn't get distributed properly, but you can torrent. The film has less action but more drama, and it was a really good film, especially the acting.

It came to hardly any cinemas in the US, so don't feel sad.

It's still the best fucking movie this year by a longshot though.

I've heard good things but it's kind of a shame that the animation award is turned into the "Latest Pixar Effot" award. Not to say they don't deserve it but I think Adam Elliot slaving away over a hot lump of plasticine is worth a mention at least.

I watched The Hurt Locker last night, good film. Sort of bigs up EOD abit too much but you'd expect that seeing as it's a film based on them. Also the main character is portrayed abit too much as a hero type. But the film keeps going and picks itself up afterwards. I liked the filming style. Lack of stupid BGM for the most part (hate BGM in general, even in games, unless it's awesome, but none of that orchestral or cliche shit). I always notice that there's always heightened tension and a sense of being involved when films do away with BGM.

I'm just surprised I've never heard of it until they nominated it. The plot still had quite a few question marks but I guess that's the situation, right.

solid 9/10

Dunno what the military types/Rackie vets think of it, but I liked it
