5850 and more RAM.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Fuck you mooslim, I've only just upgraded my graphics to (slightly) better than what you have.

But yeah, 5850 is a good bet. 5870 if you can stretch the cash.

E: Oh yeah you might want to wait off, nVidia are very close to releasing their graphics cards.

I've seen many modern games use over 2GB RAM already. When you've got less than a gigabyte left for the operating system and other stuff, you might have to resort to swapping to the hard drive, which is very slow.

It's better than 2GB, granted.. but look at it this way, currently, with XFire, Steam, MediaMonkey, Opera and a few background apps, my OS is utalising 1.2GB of RAM, and I've tweaked it down a bit by removing shit I didn't need, used to be at around 1.7GB. Now if you try to run that and a game, you're running out of space. BF2 on its own uses almost a GB. So with an unoptimized OS, playing BF2, with only 3GB RAM, then you're using up 2.7GB of your 3GB.. and like Freezer said, page file is really slow.

I dont see why you even need to upgrade

i play all games on all high settings with a 3.0 c2d 2gb rm and a 5770 1gb at 1980

If you have 32bit don't bother with more than 3Gb ram...

If you have 64bit you could consider it...

I'm still quite happy with my OC 4870, but I think I'll upgrade to a 5870 when they drop from the current 3000DKK to 2000DKK

Enjoy your non-existant framerates in crysis, BFBC2, etc.

HD 5770 is bad upgrade from HD 4870. Actually, it barely is upgrade at all.

I'm going to hold off at this moment, might as well increase ram (done to 4GB) and maybe upgrade processor.

might as well chuck in your processor suggestions....

That processor is still quite decent. It should keep up with most tasks, especially if you overclock it a bit.

Stick Windows 7 on it then, and overclock it some more. Tbh a complete new build will be cost ineffective when compared to your current rig. I suppose you could get another s775 CPU, like a Q9550, that'd max out your rig.

Q9550 is not supported by my mobo.

I have an abit AW9d-max so i'll prob go for a E8500 if i can find one.

(please dont kill me F7P)
