I found it funny that I saw a mistake within the first 10 minutes. When they were panning the church in one of the first scenes after Pearl Harbor, there were a couple American flags that were at full mast. Definitely woudn't have been the case on December 8th.
...I knew they were mutilated but I didn't notice that...Superior Mind wrote:

I'm not quite sure what was up with the world map during the 1st briefing with the Marines. Iceland and Hawaii were both in Axis colors. WTF?!
Seemed a little light on action. I guess I expected more time spent on training like the Curahee! episode for BoB rather than introductory backstory stuff. I'm positive it will change in future episodes but the one tonight was rather forgettable.

You'll find more Marines who will do that then in the other organisations.Mekstizzle wrote:

You try marching into artillery fire, machine guns and mine fields.

Mek, are you seriously questioning his knowledge of military organisations. You do know that this man has met thousands upon thousands of servicemen and women.Mekstizzle wrote:

Hey that was pretty good, I'm enjoying it more than BoB already.
@clausewitz- there was a token scene where the protaganist opens a Jap backpack to find pictures of the guy's family and a doll from his kids. At least they're trying.

^ agree. i caught this one from the start, i jumped in BoB in the middle, had to go back.
There's a reason they are called jarheads... They get their brains removed in training only to be filled back up with a mix of espirit de corps and bravado. Yes, Marines are far more likely to charge headlong into artillery and machine gun fire than pretty much anyone else because pretty much every Marine recruit has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove that he is the baddest man on the planet. I've met plenty of Marines and they're just... different. They attract a different mindset than any other branch of service does.Mekstizzle wrote:

I would like to submit that submariners of any nation had more balls.ATG wrote:

Second only to Marines in WW2 imo were bomber crews in the Airforce. The bombers crews had even worse odds but acted as a team whereas a lot of individual heroism was found on the battlefield amongst the grunts.
As far as historical accuracy it doesn't get any better than BOB. I have only the experience of all of Ambroses books and having read the entire Time Life encyclopedia of WW2, as well as several POW's and KIAs from WW2 in my family to judge, but hey..
1 out of every 5 U.S. Navy submariners was killed in WWII.
3/4 of Japanese submarines sunk,
3/4 of U-boats sunk.
The US economy is a giant Ponzi scheme. And 'to big to fail' is code speak for 'niahnahniahniahnah 99 percenters'
Watched it, was AWESOME Cant wait for the next episodes
