Hi guys,
need a bit help.

On the R2E, the top PCI-e x1 port apparently wont be able to fit an X Fi Titanium. I'm planning on using the 3rd PCI-e x16 for a physx card for metro 2033 and my other two are occupied with 5870s. Would it be safe to run the R2E without the NB heatsink? (Unscrew it and remove it) or do I have to have some sort of cooling? Or is there a heatsink that would NOT block the way of a lengthly PCI-E x1 card on the top?

YOU NEED COOLING ON THE NORTHBRIDGE. Don't remove it!!

You can carefully cut a few of the pins off though if you want to fit the sound card in.

Is there an aftermarket cooling solution for it that WONT block a lenghtly PCI-E x1 sound card on there?

What are you talking about? It's a mod for the board. Loads of people have done it.

Safest way I'd reckon would be to remove the NB entirely so as not to damage the board, cut it carefully with a hacksaw then sand it down so its smooth.

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

Sure that'll work? At some point, you could only do Physx if you did the rendering on a NV card

Alot of sites around the web and tech websites are doing what they call Hybrid Physx, essentially, its ATI cards with an GT220.

The results with physx on are 4-5 folds. I dont know how reliable this news is yet though.

Oh one more quesiton, is there thermal paste below that NB heatsink? Cuz if not, im not bothered to go buy some. And my one has run out.

Yeah, there might be some more on the other side too. I'd expect there to be 4 in total, I can't remember, I can't see mine for my cpu heatsink!

Edit: I've just checked, yeah, there is just 2 screws.
