Yeah if he's going for modding, look at Monaros. Good looking but don't give much away if you don't know what one is, V8 and sounds epic. Very good modding community also and when done properly it's awesome. There's a yellow Monaro in some magazines running around 700bhp last time I read about it.
edit: ignore Fox, you don't want your mate looking like a tw@

A shitty modded one on the other hand
♥
I'm not referring to shitty mods?
A quick look through some classifieds shows there's barely any (I saw none) unmolested Supras

He's talking about Fast and Furious cars.Engineer_Fox wrote:

Subaru Impreza wrx sti 2007 with a fucking epic paintjob, and an epic interior. Of course do all the shit you need like in Fast and Furious to get that baby pumping, you'll be all pro with your epic drifting impreza while the rich fags drive their crap.

Serious this time:
How good is that car anyway for racing? The Impreza STI WRX 2007?

Maybe it's that I've been a bit on the lower end of the middle class scale, but isn't ~55k an awful lot to spend on a car? Sure, if you are a rich SOB and can spare it, go for it, but I'm sure that M3 wasn't exactly cheap either. Is this friend of yours a rich bastard? If so, spread the wealth
It would get eaten alive by the lambos and ferrarrars. But they cost a fraction of the price.-Sh1fty- wrote:

He's pretty well off, yes. He'll sell the M3 to partially finance it.DesertFox- wrote:

Offroad? Great. Onroad? Not so much. The original tranny is geared for acceleration and midrev torque, so you won't be giong all that fast on the straights. Not only that, but it's rather unstable at high speeds.-Sh1fty- wrote:

That being said, I'd buy an Evo before an STi.
I like pie.
What if you did some engine work? Not necessarily legal engine work ?TSI wrote:

I thought the Subaru was really stable with the added aileron on the top of the car (not the one on the back) the one just before the rear windshield.

tell him to get a dinan conversion done on the m3, with the supercharger.
why not look at the M5?
why not look at the M5?
No, the aileron helps it at keep traction at non-optimal low speed. Such as going sideways. Not so effective when going at 250+. And besides, the issue isn't as much with the back as with the front.-Sh1fty- wrote:

As for the engine work, it would essentially require a new tranny and maybe even diff. Which would be ass-ridiculous expensive. If you mean nitrous, I supect that the oft-pulled over Gumballer would try to avoid it (direct trip to massive fine and impound).
@Gooners: the M5 would probably be too expensive new, and used would probably be abused.
I endorse the Dinan suggestion.

better yet, tell him to get a honda civic and mod it like all these mexicans do here in cali
Because it's no faster than the M3. Unrestricted they both top out at similar speeds, and the M3 has the edge in acceleration. The problem with tuning companies is that he doesn't want to go and spend the price of a car under the hood. Also, it'll be even worse for depreciation; the instant he tries to resell it, the 30k or whatever he's spend on tuning will add maybe 10k to what he could have already sold it for.Gooners wrote:

I do mean pounds, his budget is 50-60k pounds.Gooners wrote:
