You could make the argument that the movies about assassinating Bush are worse if the methods that were shown actually would work, but it seems like, if that were true... then Bush would be dead by now.
As for the ties to terrorists, if you're referring to Ayers, Obama was only a child when Ayers was part of the Weathermen. Obama got to know him when he was a college professor. I wouldn't exactly consider Ayers "good company", but he's not currently a terrorist. He's technically only alleged as one because of the FBI's complete fuckup in handling the case.

But seriously I just heard about a church pastor who put the flag upside down outside his church because of Obamacare.... when you get a mix of religion and politics like this you are going to get the crazies. And the reason for that is that for a person to change their politcal mind is relatively easy compared to a person who is told that a political stance has a religious basis and that requires them to change their religious views in order to change their political views Voilà you get the crazies.

A more valid comparison with Obama's connection to Ayers would be McCain's connection to John Hagee. Both connections harmed the image of each candidate, but it wasn't enough to end their runs for the presidency.
Hagee may not be a terrorist, but he's definitely an extremist.
