Pretty much right, although removing personal items from dead bodies is a war crime. Might want to remember that. Also when you're searching bodies, especially on a static enemy position, you need to roll the bodies as they could be boobytrapped, (i.e. lying on an active grenade. To roll them you generally connect two toggle ropes, attach them to the corpse, get behind cover, inform your section, ('Standby! Rolling now!') and hope there's no grenade. After the bodies have been checked this way, THEN you can search them for intel - just leave the personal belongings alone unless you want to be charged.
Section Commander isn't always a full Corporal, two of my Section Commanders in the past have been Lance Jacks. I've also had a baggy, (Private,) as a 2IC. Maybe that's just in NZ 'cause we have a small army, but regardless, even Privates can do Section Commander courses, (mostly just helps with them being considered for promotion.)
Sections aren't always built the same. It's great if you can get two gun groups but often there'll be only one. One of my sections had two, (big section.) We had a scout group, (2,) 2IC and SC, (2,) Sig, (1,) two gun groups, (4,) and a Grenadier group, (2, with me being the grenadier and getting the UGL.) It depends on the Section Commander how they place them in order of march, I would place them:
Scouts at the front, then alpha gun, then the SC, then the Sig, then the bravo gun, then the 2IC, then the Grenadiers.
My last SC put one of the guns at the front though which left me, as the lead scout, kind of just fucking around and filling in gaps where they were needed. Basically the 2IC´s bitch.
Contacts always depend on the situation, the terrain, what kind of country you're in, how many enemies there are, (we have a rule of three. A 3:1 ratio of us to them. More enemies than that and we'll scarper.) IAs, (initial actions,) are pretty much the same in most situations though. The contact is made, ([whoever] yells 'CONTACT FRONT/LEFT/RIGHT/REAR!',) and goes to ground/cover/concealment. Two front groups, (say Scout and Alpha Gun,) form a line with the Gun being in the optimal ground, (say high ground,) rear groups, (Grenadiers and Bravo Gun,) will turn to face the rear with the Bravo gun being on the same side as the Scouts. Depends on the direction of the contact, if it's from the rear for example the Bravo Gun and the Grenadiers will form the front line with the Scouts and Alpha Gunners at the rear. SC will control the front two, 2IC will take control of the rear two with the Sig taking cover/giving the 'Contact!' call/doing amnything the SC wants. The SC may choose to move up the rear two sections to fill gaps or just lay down heavier fire depending on the situation. Once the firefight is won, the assault starts and that just goes however the SC wants it to. After the enemies have been captured/killed the assaulting section moves up to the LOE, informs the SC of the terrain to their left, front and right. The 2IC takes control of the section, checking ammunition levels, casualties etc. and ready to issue fire control orders if there's another contact while the SC moves back to confer with the Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Commander while the other two sections, (as in most cases you won't be working in just a section there'll be the two other sections in your platoon behind you - not always but in most ideal cases,) and the rear two sections will form a defensive harbour, clear and search bodies, deal with prisoners etc. etc. Once the reorg is complete then the section/platoon moves off to their next task.
Detailed eh? I remember it like this.
P - Battle Prep - includes everything from servicing weapons/equipment, resting, issuing orders, rehersals etc.
R - React to accurate enemy fire - this includes your IAs.
E - Locate the Enemy - I left this out of my rundown but this is giving your RITs so everyone knows where to shoot.
W - Win the firefight - SC issues fire control orders, you lay down the lead, eventually the enemy will be pissing themselves.
A - Assault - the fun part.
R - Reorg - the boring part. Waiting for the higher ups to sort their shit out while you lie on your guts and watch your front.
OKay I'll shut up now. Hard to believe I'm just a baggy, I could teach this shit.
