I have Ethernet plugs in my apartment which I can directly connect my computer to, but I need another PC connected as well.
Is it possible to connect the router* I have to the Internet through an
Ethernet cable from the wall plug and then the computers through that router?

I'm thinking it must be done using the PPPoE-protocol, but I have no idea how to set that up.

Do you mean Ethernet from wall to the routers Ethernet port? Doesn't work without configuration atleast.
Or do you mean Ethernet to ADSL port?

just checked the manual...


looks like you'll have to use a regular ethernet port, the ADSL is for phone systems... if you are doing a telephone company's DSL service...

you'll then want to disable DHCP... basically turning your box into a switch

Connect the supplied RJ-11 cable to the ADSL port and then to the wall outlet. Then you just plug in the power cable, and each computer's Ethernet cable to one of the four LAN ports.

Changed router to PPPoE and disabled DHCP, working perfectly now!

I guess I just assumed he was using an ADSL connection and thus had an RJ-11 wall jack somewhere in the apartment since it said ADSL modem on the site.

Heh, I know how to set up a router the normal way. Never had ethernet ports on the wall though, and as one of the wasn't working, I had to improvise a little
