i need a backup connection so that i can stop losing $$$ when my shitty ass connection decides to go down. what are my best options?
The obvious choice would be either a dial backup over your land line, or a 3G dial backup if you have reception where the router will be. You can find regular home gateways with both features.whaaaaaaaaaat wrote:

dont have a landline and my cell service sucks balls inside my apt
unfortunately, it's probably not going to be cost effective for home use, unless you're pulling in some serious cash. the only viable option is to have both a cable and dsl/dial-up connection (requiring a land line), since both use different connection lines, and are basically separate from each other. a land line itself shouldn't cost too much, since i only pay about 7 bucks a month for mine. i have it only for the dsl link, and don't use it for phone service or anything like that.
really the cellular or 3g backup is the cheapest way, so maybe you can figure out some sort of way to augment the strength of your cell coverage.

cellular tether or clearwire
i mean one missed hand could be the difference between winning 5k or 100, so cost isnt really a problem. i just want the easiest and most reliable. you have no idea how annoying this is
Neighbour's Wifi.

yes. the cable company has been here several times to "fix" it. the last time they were here, the guy told me that my cable was shared by every other unit in my complex (11 others), so thats why its so bad11 Bravo wrote:

Install a bandwidth tracker and watch how fast it goes up over like a week of use, then x that by 4.
Keep the tracker installed and set an alarm for 4.5gb so you don't go over.
The dongle might come with some sort of tracking software too.

how many splitters are there on your cable line that come to the modem?
If there are any splitters that go to other tvs off of your computer modem cable...
you can try and run the coaxial cable(white cable)
directly to your modem... There is a decibel drop when you go through a splitter and it can reduce your signal.
Ask your cable guy to test your db level at the modem.

my signal sucks with or without the splitter. if i bypassed the splitter, i wouldnt be able to watch tv, so that doesnt seem like a very good optionCatbox wrote:

what is the db level outside at the green box(ped) and what is the db level at the box on the house?
Love is the answer
idk man. last time they were here was like 5 months ago
If they can come out and check... you could find out where the drop in db is.
Then it's on them to fix it.
