Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a new videocard to replace my aging 7900gt, what would you recommend in the $140 price range? I was looking at the EVGA 9800GT 1GB. How important is having more VRAM? For playing games like Grand Theft Auto, don't you need a ton of VRAM? Also, what does ATI have out right now?
Really?ceslayer23 wrote:

i know what they have out right now, what i don't know is how it compares to nvidia products price/performance wise
ATI's DX11 range is cheaper than Nvidia's.ceslayer23 wrote:

$160 is where you could pick up a 5770, I would look @ that.

nVidia versus ATi for price/performance ATi will win hands down. 5770 is a good suggestion for your pricerange, nick suggested a good one.
Specs:
Phenom X2 550 @ 3.7GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
74GB 10k Raptor / 2x 500gb storage drives
EVGA 7900GT/GTO 256MB
ASRock A790GHX mobo
Nice 22" screen
Ok, say I were to spend $200 maximum, what would be the absolute best card for that money?

If you save up another $100 you can get a 5850 which is roughly double the performance of the 5770.
5770 it is then, thank you, beers karma all around
