No image on screen

I have been half arsed trying to fix my machine for a month now. I finially got my 5870 vapour X in yesterday, booted my machine and I am getting no picture on the display.

I get the same problem on both my 4850 and 5870. I have tried it plugged into my HD TV aswell via DVI-HDMI adapter, no dice. So I am fairly sure it isnt the GPU (less my 5870 is teh fucked aswell) or the monitor.

Motherboard fault maybe?

All it does is go, digital, analogue, digital, light goes onn and off, then the screen just sits black. I cant see the BIOS or anything. Machine seems to run fine, but I just cant see sod all.

Thoughts?>

Not tried the other slot yet.

Spec is

Intel Core i7 930
6GB Corsair 1866Mhz memory
Asus P6T Deluxe
Saphire Vapoour X 5870
500GB HD
Fatalty Xfi Pro
Corsair 1000W PSU

I took it to a mates today with the monitor and no signall either. Now, as I said, the HD tv doesnt show a picture either, so am thinking, perhaps the cable which was used in each test may have something to do with it. If not am out of idea's.

Certainly hope so, Currys want £35 for a DVI cable, but then I did just spend £330 on a GPU for fuck all reason so why not!

One other thing, my PSU is making a very loud static like noise when I turned it on today, really loud, I think its scupered aswell

With digital cables, the signal is just that - digital. There's no quality loss. The picture will get there or it won't, there's no middle ground. This means there's no point in going for expensive digital cables. The only difference is shielding (which can be worth it). tl;dr, buy the cheapest shielded digi cable you can.

Don't know about the PSU, but perhaps some dust might have settled on the fan or something since it's been sitting a while. It should be alright considering it's quite new.
