Here's a question that seems fairly important and yet no one seems to have an answer for.

How long does it take to cap a flag for 1, 2, 3 etc. players?
Is there any real benefit in capping a flag with more than 2 players?
Does the size of the map or number of players affect the rate at which a flag is capped
If players enter the flag radius at different times how does that affect the flag change speed?
Is it possible to cap a flag instantly with sufficient numbers?

Good questions? I really want to know the answer to these - they seem so important and yet I have never seen them asked or answered...

when a squad of 4-5 people go to an enemy flag together, they cap it ni no time
Also, capping the enemy main base (rear flag...) takes more time than other "normal" flags.

I haven't tested my theory, but I think it goes something like this:

Time to cap flag = X / noOfPlayers

Where X is some value like 10 seconds or so (I'm pretty sure it varies between flags).

So if you have a 10-second flag, it will take:

10 seconds with one player
5 seconds with two players
2.5 seconds with three players
1.25 seconds with four players

EDIT: wrong numbers (I'm tired, ok?). Proper numbers below.

This seems to be borne out by the way the little red/blue bars fill up; when you have a couple of players, the red bar changes to blue when it's halfway along. It changes quicker if there are more players.

You won't get insta-caps with this scheme (the time approaches zero as you add more players, but doesn't reach it). This would be about right; I've capped flags with a six-man squad before and the flag went down and up very quickly.

I would guess that the 'flag strength' is mirrored by the height of the flag, which goes up or down faster depending on how many players there are in the cap area. The rate at which it goes up and down is determined by how many players are in the radius at that particular time. This solves the problem of what happens when you have people entering the flag area during a capture.

As I said, I'm not sure if this is correct but it would explain most things. It will perhaps be clearer in 1.3 as I believe one of the intended changes is to make the capture progress bars reflect the flag status more accurately.

edited for clarity/typos

thats the problem though - it doesnt seem to be half the time to cap a flag for 3 as opposed to 2
What are the raw numbers does anyone know?

Erk, brainstorm on my part, sorry. That should read:

So if you have a 10-second flag, it will take:

10 seconds with one player
5 seconds with two players
3.33 seconds with three players
2.5 seconds with four players

It takes "a while" but not all Flags are the same, you'll notice that the Spawns for Helecopters in Mastuur City (The Gas Stations).

They take twice as long to capture? They take alot longer thats for sure.

Not every Flag is the same...though most are?

I think it depends on the map size too. I have noticed when I am on a 24/32 man server the flags goes down alot quicker with just one person compared to a 64 man server.

yeah or like Factory in karkand, takes ages by yourself or even with some teammembers, others are faster to cap.

I can't tell you how many times I wish I had just one more person in the cap zone because somebody spawns at the last second before the flag greys and kills me.  Or how many times I've spawned at the last second of one of my team's flags being greyed and stopped the cap.  Having more than one capper is extremely valuable.
