I'm looking to buy one from here (it's a place I buy all my computer parts from as their prices are low and it's very convenient to order online and pickup in person - longest I've waited is 5 minutes when they were busy).

Anyway, who here owns one or has used one? It's looking like LED is the way to go from a lot of reviews I've read, but I haven't had any chance to check one out in person or to discuss it with someone.

Someone also suggested I wait till 3D tv comes out (expected sometime in June) as the price for LED displays should drop around this time. Would you agree/disagree with this statement?

Anything else you'd care to add would be appreciated. Thanks

True, on all accounts. I just want some further justification I guess.

I think the big players (like Samsung, Sony etc.) are releasing their 3D tvs in June, so it'll be somewhat mainstream by then.

They'll be showing the World Cup game of Australia vs. Germany in 3D, mainly in cinemas and live. Should be interesting.

3D on a 23" seems, well, underwhelming...  Needs to be minimum 58"...

I'd seriously hold off for at least another year or two before going "expensive" 3D though.  Chatter is new sets that don't require those expensive glasses will be coming out.

As in it will require cheaper glasses?  That would be nice.

Also, that thing is really ugly

yeah, limited viewing angles and such.  It's a start.  30-45 degree viewing angle for a couple people is better than having to wear special glasses.  Anyway, tech should improve in a year or two.

And simply doesnt work as well.  I dont see the big thing about glasses, a large part of the population wears them all day with no problems, whats the matter with a 2 hour movie?  I think its perfectly fine.

Yeah, we sorta derailed it in part to this part:

"Someone also suggested I wait till 3D tv comes out (expected sometime in June) as the price for LED displays should drop around this time. Would you agree/disagree with this statement?"

But to answer your question.  Yes, 3D TV is lowering the price of LED TV's.  Not so much for the desktop LCD LED TV's.  I only see significant markdowns from 40"+ screens.  Desktop LED size is only just getting into the market, since CCFL is still pretty common.

Alright, so in other words I shouldn't bother waiting and just get it when I can afford it? (maybe next week).

Wouldn't trust an Asus LED tbh. The only people that have LED under control are Samsung.

I would wait a couple of months...

Also, brightness is a bit low. 250 nits isn't much, you really want 300.

Why's that? I thought Asus were a reputable brand.

A lot of the reviews I've read have made mention of the monitor being too bright out of the box and having to turn it down.

I guess I'm trying to see if someone can convince me to get it, or convince me not to. I'm still too minds about it right now.

Asus are very reputable, but not for monitors. They have one LCD monitor that is quite popular, but the name escapes me and I cannot find it anymore.

The reputable brands for monitors are: Samsung, Dell, HP, BenQ, Hyundai and LG.

Both LG and Samsung are good for LED and LCD (TN Panels) and Dell and HP are both known for their LCD IPS panels (the ultrasharp from Dell). BenQ sits in between, they are good with LCD and LED.

Thanks for the info.

So in your opinion should I just steer clear of getting an Asus LED monitor and just get a regular LCD from one of those other brands?
