although for the price of the q9550 ($279) you could get a decent LGA1156 motherboard and a core i(x) processor.
if you run a non SLI/Crossfire system, even the i3 ($ 129 and very overclockable) works.

that would allow for future upgrades

Whioch would require a mobo upgrade, which would require a new set of ram....

Don't have the money for such...

all i need now is a new, decent 775 quad, then i'll upgrade mid next year.

Ah, gotcha. Well then why not go ahead and do a full upgrade now? If you're going to shell out the cash for a 775 quad and still be willing to upgrade further in the near future, why not just go for a new i5/7 system NOW?
