I recently got quite a few HD-DVD movies and I have nothing to play them on is there a way I can rip them to my Hard drive and watch them in VLC player? keeping them in high def, I also do not have an HD-DVD or blu-ray drive. Just one program that does it all would be nice

Mount it and play normally.  Most media players should just allow you to play it like that.

Also, for the love of god dont use VLC, especially for HD.

Oh woah, I think you edited your post.  You dont have an HD-DVD drive?  Then theres nothing you can do to play it on your computer.

Really?  How?

You could try sending them in and getting a BluRay replacement one - http://red2blu.com/

The last time someone told me that they recommended a program that I did not like. KMP? Smplayer? MPC? Anyways the difference was negligible on my laptop. What do you recommend and why? srz question

Not being funny but with no drive you cant read the disc, so no matter what software you get, you cant read the disc so you can't do anything with it. It's not like you can put it in a normal DVD drive and expect that to be able to read it.

KMPlayer and MPC-HC are the two best at the moment.  VLC is just fail for proper codecs, especially at HD.  I continually switch back and forth between preferring one over the other, right now I'm using MPC-HC.

What kind of stuff are you watching with it?  If its SD xvid it makes no difference, but once you get into high bitrate and resolutions it can make a world of difference.

All kinds of formats. Sometimes it gets choppy in hd, but not usually. I have both KMPlayer and MPC-HC installed. I'll try them again next time I get a little stutter (which I assumed was from my lappy's mediocre performance).

Then you have an HD-DVD drive...  It's physically impossible for a normal DVD drive to read HD-DVD discs, it uses completely the wrong laser for a start.

Oh wait.  GR34 that disk you copied is one of those hybrid HD-DVD\DVD disks.  It HD-DVD on one side, DVD on the other.

You should be able to play pretty much anything except the very highest quality 1080p on any laptop made within the past couple years with the proper media player/codecs.  Even the new netbooks/tablets with 1.5GHz processors can do it.  My laptop is 2 years old and mid-low level yet it can easily play anything I throw at it.

Try installing one of the two with the most recent version and installing CoreAVC 2.x (whatever is latest at the time), its the best codec pack right now.  If you still arent able to play it perfectly try coming on IRC, I can show you how to change your video renderer and other settings to be more efficient at HD.

Like I said most of the time no problem. When there is a problem shutting down a few extra processes usually fixes it. That is why I thought it may be performance. Still, I'm going to try the other players again.

You shouldnt need to shut processes down in the first place.  Are you using DXVA material and renderers?
