not to be rude but often people, here is this forum, have an idea that is not the best idea regarding upgrades.

based in the LIMITED information you initially provided, the answer, without any recommendation, is the Q9650. Based on your link the Q9505 is the best available at that store. However there are better options out there for the same price.

We now know you have DDR2 and an E6600 (pentium dual) and wish to render and I wish you luck in your quest.

I love my Q9650. Looking at prices it seems to be a better value now too.

Q9550 is 180 bucks at microcenter... Not sure if they ship to AU?

I have the Q9400 overclocked to 3.2ghz and it runs very well.

The i7 930 is 199.95 also... almost worth it to do a full upgrade.

Unfortunately those are in-store deals only.

First off OP why do you feel the need to upgrade and how long do you intend on using the processor?

I have agree spending much on a 775 system is kind of pointless now, but I also understand not having the dough for a full upgrade.

Here's the way i see it......

I can spend 250 bucks now, get a decent processor which then the computer could last another year or a bit more...

If i buy a whole new system, my old system is practically going to waste. The system i have isnt a bad one, except for the slow arse processor.

If i was to upgrade now, this is what i would get:

the prices may shock you, welcome to AU.

Now why spend this much on a new computer, when in 12 months time i can spend the same amount of money on a better system....

My computer i have now, except the processor is good enough imo for another 12-18 months.....

Upgrading would be future proof, well why not upgrade in the future?
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.

So I take it you can't wait and upgrade later? The dual core really too slow for you?

lol Cheaper than here

Why not get the Rampage II GENE.. it's much cheaper yet imo better than the deluxe ?

Surely you won't need Tri-Fire / Tri-SLi

I was thinking of getting another 775 CPU to replace my X6800.

....but not worth it!
