If I was in his position I'd rather have the security of having the extra 2GB instead of monitoring my usage to make sure I don't go over 2GB..

Looks like you've only got 3 installed...
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System and it'll tell you how much is installed, or run CPU-Z and click the memory tab.
