ive been playing bf2 for a few months now, and have never experienced any serious lag till a few days ago, and now it always lags like hell at all the critical moments, especially in planes and helis. can anyone help?

my specs are- 1 gig of RAM, 2.4 GHz processor, 128MB graphics card.
I recently defraged.

Have you tried flushing your modem? Unplug the power for one minute, then back on. Have you tried updating your router (assuming you have one)?

Yeah. Shut down all background processes like virus scan. That REALLY helps. Believe me ive tried it.

What kind of 'lag'?

Do you get kickback, where you seem to be a bit behind everyone else? That's a connection/internet problem.

I have about the same specs - XP 64 3000+,1 gig of RAM and a 128MB GF6600gt.

I run the game on medium settings and the first 2-3 minutes of the first round of a map are just horribly jerky, then it is ok with a bit of trouble when flying, you often get a jerkyness-related crash.

New gfx-card is not in the budget for me yet,I'd have to buy a new motherboard aswell then so I'll just get a completely new machine when I have the money for it,until then I think the only thing I can do is upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM and play a bit with the settings.

A lot of people here say that 2 gigs of RAM removed all the jerkyness on their machines,BF2 is a memory-muncher - 1.3 GB plus your operating system plus all the other programs in the background.

I'll post when I have the new RAM next week if things got better.

Wow..you guys lagging with those rigs!! THe best thing has already been said: ' Turn your Shadows and Lighting and sight ( believe, its the last option) to like 60% instead of 90%. If you look at my rig you know why I have those settings! [2.08 GHz AMD; 256 ATI 700x Graphix; 768 RAM (yeah I mixed and matched because Im cheap) and a router.]

Heres what I USED to run and it worked really well:
Lighting: low
dynamic shadows: off
dynamic lighting: off
Terrain: low
effects: high
geometry: high
texture: high
anti-aliasing: 4x
texture filtering: high
distance scale: 100%

But couple things I've adjusted because I liked, like lighting and terrain and moved distance scale to like 70% -- took shadows off because it uses alot of pixelation. I don't get any lag unless someone comes on with 350 ping then everyone lags..

try low settings

also try this

open console by pressing ` ingame type in

pb_sleep 500 ( this comand will Change your PB doing its thing to every 500 secs instead of every 20 secs )
then type in
pb_writecfg ( this will save your PB settings so you don't have to type in every time you go in to server )

Peace Boris
