Gran Torino - 9/10
Masterpiece. True Eastwood awesomeness. Really funny at times too, I did not expect this.
The Soloist - 8/10
That was a surprisingly great movie. I recommend it to anyone. Great performance by Robert Downy Jr. (yet again) and Jamie Foxx with a saddening view on parts of our life.

Van Wilder - 9/10
There´s mindless funny movies and then theres this one! Saw it a bazillion times, yet never stop laughing!

But Wall-E is amazing! Whereas Avatar really isn't.

Well considering its visually outstanding and such a technical milestone in filmmaking, both in CGI animation and 3D, its not that hard to believe it really. Bear in mind a lot of the technology developed specifically for Avatar will see use in other films to come as well, especially those that require motion-capture. Fair chance that'll extend into games as well.RTHKI wrote:

Well yea, I still have to see it, don't watch many animated films.. I was just surprised..Especially when they had it in front of the Lord of the Rings trilogy...not the movies separately..The whole thingM.O.A.B wrote:

I thought LotR did some technology advancements also, with Gollum mainly. But I don't know a lot about movies soo..

Same effects company for LOTR (Weta Digital, Peter Jacksons company) did a lot of the visual effects for Avatar, along with ILM. Jackson's movies took motion-capture up to a new level (Gollum, Kong), but Cameron developed a new camera that sits in front of the actor's face, and allows the expressions, eye and mouth movements to be captured and transferred more accurately, so it was kind of another step up if you know what I mean.RTHKI wrote:

Of course, everyone has their own tastes for what movies they prefer
Avatar - 10/10, as it was when I saw it in theatres. Just not the same not seeing it in IMAX though.
I Love You, Man - 8.5/10. Second time seeing it... still love it, although I'm still way more partial to Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

come on poseidon, you cannot give avatar-2d a 10/10. seriously. the characters, the storyline, the themes, the (voice)-acting... if the film didnt have the budget and technology that it did, it would have been a fucking utter fail-fest. 7/10 at best.
i hate people that use the 'they're just opinions' fallback on anything remotely artistic. consult the last 3,000 years of aesthetics and philosophy.

that's like saying "if Shawshank Redemption didn't have the actors it did, it would have been a fucking utter fail-fest.". Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman made that movie what it was with their acting. Avatar's visual effects made it what it was.Uzique wrote:

... in 2d? what's the fuss? it was eye-candy for cinema.
edit: no way stephen king's storyline and themes were THE BOMB in shawshank

I watched avatar in 700mb form on my laptop.... I still think it is one of the best (if not the best) movies I have ever seen...
Opinions etc.

get lost with "opinions opinions etc." i hate that lame-ass, reductionist, duck-out, catch-all excuse
read some hume, or some bourdieu or something if you want a 20th century example. taste, opinions, judgements are more than abstract, isolated, subjective notions. there IS an objectivity and scale of relativity in taste and discerning between good and bad. you can't just keep fucking saying "well i think it is a 1/10, and on the merit of some shitty descartes-like cogito ergo sum bullshit, the opinion stands for itself". it doesn't assert anything except a shit opinion.

Max Payne 5/10 Was ok as a film to watch at 3 in the morning out of pure boredom but the story was not really more just a way of getting from one big event to another rather than something that builds up throughout. All the twists are very predictable.

This is about rating videos by what we think of them... I though Avatar was over the top 10/10, someone else could think it was a 1/10, I got no problem with them although I find it hard to believe how / why they think it...
Goddamn what a high amount of nazi's in BF2s these days...
