I got a Core 2 Quad Q9550 and a GTX 260 216-core and 4GB (2x2) of G.SKILL PC2-5300 RAM

I bought the RAM because at the time I only went with what I knew, which is that the FSB and DRAM frequency are supposed to be the same, but people were saying Core 2s can take advantage of more bandwidth unlike older processors.  So I'm wondering if it would be worth it get higher clocked RAM for my machine, like raising my framerates significantly, and if so, what should I get?  My price range is around 70$.  Or should I just save for when nVidia releases better DX11 cards?  I'm mainly looking to get more performance out of BC2 and future DX11 games, as I can only play it on medium settings at 1680x1050, it runs a great at those settings with a little tiny bit of lag every now and then but other than that crystal clear framerates.

Also, why the fuck have RAM prices blown up so much?  It's absolutely ridiculous, I saw 2GB kits that were like 35$ 9 months ago now going for like 55$ or some shit like that.  Before you know it I'll be paying 90$ for 1GB like I did for DDR1 four or five years ago.

only buy faster ram when it stops you from getting a higher OC
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Ram won't really affect your framerates. Loading times, yes. But even then pretty much all DDR2 coupled with a decent CPU (check) and a decent HDD (dunno) and you'll only be improving it by a few seconds.

Decent, but not the best. Still, you'll not see much of an improvement. Not worth spending the money, anyway.

Put it in the "i7 rig" fund.

I'd recommend getting 2 500GB drives. Less failure rate, even if one does fail you have the other, usually works out cheaper too.

I have two of these

Highly recommended.
