Empire can be perfectly simulated by playing Medieval 2 but only with the gun-power units and some cav.Marlo Stanfield wrote:

Hey, Gs. I'm thinking about building a PC for ETW. Before I go and spend the time/money on doing this, since you played both MTW2 and ETW, what are the major differences I'll noticed between the shift aside from time period and battles?
Like in terms of diplomacy, civilization building, generals trait systems etc?
And ridiculous amounts of artillery.
I really loved Rome and Medieval 2 but I thought Empire just sucked balls.
I like muskets
I recommend NTW

I liked Imperial Glory better than Empire but the graphics are a bit dated now, it seems like empire just ripped off everything imperial glory did

he's gotta point. the game was rushed. the american campaign isnt really worth playing. get NTW instead

I kinda already did. The game was pretty much just the same as using only the ranged units from the other Total War games. Sure there is some action but it's mostly just sitting back and whittling down your enemies. Also artillery units are too strong and too widely proliferated, in Medieval 2 you only brought a few with you too assault cities and castles easier, while in Empire they are a much bigger part of the game, and at the same time they aren't even any more fun to use and require no more strategy.Marlo Stanfield wrote:

Also the naval battles are boring also and control really poorly. You'll just auto-resolve most of them because of how tedious they are.
Also the game was buggy as fuck when I played it. Don't know if it still is.
The turn-based game is an improvement over Medieval, but the RTS portion is just such a step backward that it's not worth it. And especially given that Medieval costs less, the choice is pretty clear.
