Ok so i lost my BF2 disc ages ago, but found my key. so i d/l'd an image, mounted it and it all worked chill. then i had to take my rig back to uni, so i pulled it all apart, and set it up in a different case EXCEPT I LEFT THE DVD DRIVE BEHIND (by accident). now when i go to load BF2 the splash screen displays, the client opens then closes straight away. Also possibly relevant, the reso i was using at home is different to what im trying to use know.

Mine used to crash when I set the in-game resolution too high for my setup. The only way I fixed it was by deleting the shaders folder in My Docs. I think that was it anyways... it's been years...

Nothing like that. My Intel X25-M G2 is pure sex.

Just the early SSDs based around the JMB322 controller are rather slow on small random writes. Avoid those as windows disks. With windows you can get some weird slowdowns with them. Linux on the other hand works flawlessly

The Intel X25-M 80GB is about $200

and yes, at least all the higher end SSDs are SATA

EDIT: expanding a bit from here. That drive is perfect as an OS drive. Great speeds for all those tiny reads and writes. TRIM support so it stays fast even after heavy use. Sequential read speed isn't as high as others, but that's not really important for an OS

SATA controller. If you already have a bunch of disks connected to your south bridge, there may not be enough bandwidth left for the SSD. Also if you're going RAID, a dedicated card is desirable to lower CPU usage.
