Computer won't turn on

Okay, so my old computer died on me. Actually, I think it was killed when my little brother kicked the case over. Either way, good excuse to upgrade.

So I went and bought the following:

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula mobo
AMD Phenom II 965 Black editon CPU
OCZ AMD Black Ed DDR3 at 1600 (4gb)

I'm using the same old hardware from the last build, which as far as I can test is still working

Coolmax 700W PSU
BFG 9800GT OC
Seagate Barracuda 320GB HDD

I finished putting it all together, plug it in, see the mobo light up, and press the power button.

The fans and case lights go on for about half a second, then go back off.
Very suprised, I push the button again. Nothing at all.

I turn off the PSU, wait twenty seconds, turn it on again, mobo lights go on, I press power on the mobo this time--same issue..

I then unplug and remove every single thing in the case: from the HDD to the GPU to the USB ports. So all that is left is the mobo. Still same problem.

Help?

AMD's sometimes won't power on if the cpu fan isn't attached.

@ Burnzz: CPU fan is on.
@SK: The only other PSU I have here did the same thing. Will try another one if I can get my hands on it later tonight.

Hmmm, you check all the connections? 8 pin CPU etc? Is there anything that could be causing teh board to short? You used standoffs and washers when installing the board into the case, right?

Okay, well, the PSU is also dead. Any recommendations? I need to run the 965, will be getting a 5870 at least or maybe going crossfire. Also two HDDs and three case fans.

Will therefore need 2x PCI 6 pin (or 6+2). Modular would be nice, but not essential. Also, budget of CAD100.

What happens on your screen TSI? Does anything appear or does the computer immediately shut-off?

Are there any beeps? Make sure the little speaker is plugged in (The one that connects with the mobo, might already be attached on the mobo).

Shifty: nothing on screen. The computer runs for about half a second, enough for the CPU fan to do one half-turn. No beeps.

I've concluded PSU is dead, so need recommendations.

Corsair 650TX?
OCZ 850 GXS or 700 or 600?
Thermaltake Purepower 600W?

A Corsair VX450 is more than enough for that.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. My computer used to turn on then off for no reason. I think Finray was the one who helped me.

Are you sure your graphics card, CPU and CPU fan are properly attached? My computer would turn on, make a loud beep then shut off. It was my graphics card that needed to be plugged in better.

It is almost certainly his PSU shifty. The only other thing that probably could be wrong is his mobo, which could have received some damage when his brother kicked his case but it's unlikely unless something were bent or broke off it.

Sounds similar to something I had a little while back, turned out to be bent CPU pins... Might wanna check that first to potentially save $100.
I'm probably wrong but it wont hurt to double check.

I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

What the hell. I convinced my father that the comp was too old to be worth trying to fix anyways. I kept the case, CPU cooler and HDD. He paid for what follows.

But now I am the proud owner of:

AMD Phenom 2 965 Black ed, currently running at 3.65 gHz (too lazy to do too much overclocking, still running on stock cooler (wanted to test CPU)
OCZ AMD Black ed. RAM (4 GB at 1600 mHz)
Corsair TX 650 PSU
a brand new DVD read-write (not important but it makes me happy)

Oh, and the 9800GT (lol) I had was working fine until about an hour ago. Then the fan started going insane, and now BIOS won't recognise it. Now running on the original 7950 GT OC I used when first building the comp four years ago.

Going shopping tomorrow, GFX suggestions? Max budget ~250. Or better yet, give me one card at $150, and I'll buy another later in the summer.

I'm not a huge fan of SLI'ing. It's better to just get one very good cardthan two average ones in my opinion, plus with the newer cards theres no way you'll need to sli them with any games in the next few years.
