I don't understand people's fascination with this movie

Movie itself was meh-ish though it did have some good action imo. The 3D effects and sheer beauty of the environment is what made the movie so popular. I just downloaded the full HD version and I have to say, the 'wow' factor was significantly lower. So I probs won't buy it, since I don't own a 3D tv anyways and 2D is certainly not worth it.
tbh me neither. Don't get me wrong.. I enjoyed it the first time. But once was enough.mtb0minime wrote:

Exactly. This movie is all about the bells & whistles, the shiny graphics, the impressive effects. But there's really no reason to go back and see it again, it's not complex or moving enough.Kmarion wrote:

Honestly I don't think that's what best showcases a HD entertainment system neither. I'd rather show off with something that isn't Sci-Fi .. like Gangs of NY, Troy, or Curse of the Golden Flower.mtb0minime wrote:

I dunno. Sure I miss the 3D, but I watched the Blu-Ray and the detail and crispness was awesome. Picked out a number of things I missed in the 3D version as well.RDMC wrote:

Simple story, smashing visuals, cracking action and everything built around scientific plausability. Found it a very entertaining film.
If enough people like something then people hate it by default. Happens with everything, games, music, films, technology.
Yeah the film didn't have the best story ever but it wasn't a bad film, at least a 6/10 by anyones opinion. I've never been to a film and been so amazed at the effects that I'd contemplate taking the next day off work to go and see it again. That may be because it was my first proper 3d experiencing though.
I have it on copy DVD but tbh I'll wait until it's back on cinema for 3d.

its simply a movie that needs to be seen on a 70ft imax 3d screen.
on 2d it is just standard action movie no13298043820 with shiny graphics.

Agreed. I love the movie but on a regular screen (non 3D and under 2 storeys high) it looks sillyjmsprovan wrote:

It also needs the sound system IMAX provides

I'd love to see it on IMAX. Might try and see it at the IMAX at the mall when its re-released. Pricey though.Winston_Churchill wrote:

it's a film for simpletons and they're the lowest common denominator in the film market
bullshit 3d gimmick - impressive for one time only and then the effect diminishes entirely - tacked onto awful storyline, pathetic themes and general over-hyped wankery. the people in this forum that announce their 'like' of the film do not surprise me. you could almost cut demographics upon the avatar-line: retards and non-retards.

tbh unobtanium is vastly superior to some of the truly horrifically cringeworthy tripe scifi/fantasy writers seem to come up with nowadays

So I guess the top film critics are all retards right?Uzique wrote:

Maybe only if I get it off a guy in Bangkok on a disc.

im asking for screenwriting and cinematography
not a general applause for the 3d and cinema-experience/spectacle
no shit, they worked on that part for 10 years with a budget higher than the GDP of a small african country
lol only just noticed you took my ebert comment seriously. it was sarcasm. ebert is a fucking douche. he frequently writes articles and polemics on things that are way out of his domain.
