People who download V2 annoy me. Why do you claim and act like you love music and then go for V2 when there's perfectly good V0's available??? I'm no audiophile myself, but ffs don't short yourself on quality, I don't care how bad your connection is; it's not worth it.

To be honest I doubt most people can even hear the difference.
I guess I must be overly guilty or something. I may or may not be able to tell the difference, but I'd feel ashamed having V2 mp3s
Hell, I've got some rare shit on my comp that I've only been able to find in 128, and despite it being so rare and being great music, I just can't enjoy it that much because the quality is so terrible. But then again, V2 isn't 128.

The difference between V2 and 128 is definitely noticeable. In terms of CBR, anything less than 192 is a no-go for me.
I put V2's on my iPod. I can fit an extra 4 or 5 albums on there by using V2 (rather than V0). Though I see what you're saying.

I agree, anything less than 192 is unacceptable.
As for mp3 players and stuff, I know I won't hear a difference when listening to them in the car or through crappy earphones while walking down a busy street. But I like to have everything organized and only one copy of the music, so I do take some hits on the space of my phone or mp3 player
Maybe in the future I'll have a super fast processor and then I can just have my entire library in flac, then instantly encode to whatever bitrate when transferring to a particular device

Different ways of encoding audio files. V0 is variable bit rate at high quality, V2 is vbr at a little bit less quality. And then there's the constant bit rate stuff like 320 kbps, 256, 192, etc.RTHKI wrote:

You can get media players that do on the fly encoding. Meaning you can have a library in FLAC and then add stuff to your portable player at a format/bit rate of your choosing. It doesn't take that long to encode to V2.
I only have a 4GB iPod that I don't update very often. I sync it with a library of ~4GB of V2 albums, that I replace/update with transcoded FLACs.

I've got a PSP with 8GB flash drive, so there's no syncing, just copy/paste whatever I want over, but I think they have similar applications where you can sync it or encode it then transfer.
Heck, even transcoding would probably be ok with this, right? Knocking a 320 or V0 down to 192 or V2 shouldn't be too big a deal should it?

Well as I'm sure you know, lossy-lossy transcoding is never advised. However you're really not going to notice the difference when listening through non-expensive headphones on a PSP.mtb0minime wrote:
