university constituency and all of the neighbouring ones are straight-blue, too. always have been. safe ground.
just waiting for gloucester and cheltenham city constituencies to turn blue now, and it's been a bloody successful night.

nah thatcherism is a dead conservative ideology. they ain't got the balls for that style. thatcher was basically the biggest shake-up and u-turn in UK government since cromwell. that won't happen again. cameron has sold himself as quite the opposite, trying to 'rebrand' the conservative party and turn away from that old-fashioned, middle-upper class toff stuff. despite being the biggest one himself. now he's down with the kids, yo, and represents the normal person. i don't think that facade will last long.
and no eleven, it isn't decided yet. chances are there could still be a hung parliament. even if labour edge over and win by a small minority (which is looking more and more unlikely)- they could theoretically arrange a coalition (brown and clegg, labour and lib dem) before the queen's appointment at 1pm tomorrow and keep the conservative blues under. the conservatives need a decent win. which, if the exit polls and current data is anything to go by... he may well get. they lost quite a few of their target, listed areas though- which is discouraging.

Ive caught question time with the PM on cspan a few times. Am I wrong in thinking Tony blair was much better at that than Gordon Brown?

cameron won't have the same policies as thatcher at all. thatcher opened the markets wide up, and broke-down all state-owned assets, and sold it off. thatcher promoted the complete opposite of 'prudence'- she instigated a more capitalistic, money-money-money system. an age of austerity it was not. an age of flamboyance and yuppie culture it was. the only problem was that it was similar to america's capitalism, in a way. very competitive. the working class got fucked by the devolution of state-power and the privatization of industries, whilst the middle-class and professionals only got richer. cameron won't be seen as that at all. he wants to make cuts. the biggest thing that the dumb public perception of the tories gets hung up on is taxation. they don't think that there will be any consideration for the poor, the working class or those requiring welfare - which isnt without precedent, may i add. look at the poll tax. that was thatcher/portillo's darkest hour.
