Which branch? What job specifically? Chair Force by the mention of Point Cook.
For the Army, it is January and June, the Navy runs various intakes at various times, depending on a few different things afaik. No idea what the fuck goes on with the Chair Force but I'm pretty sure it's very similar to the Army, I know the Chair Force basic training is done rather close to Kapooka.
Comission (RMC Duntroon) is different, as are the ADFA intakes, university reserve regiments and shit.

You probably wont have a choice about your start date. If you applied right now you'd probably end up in the Jan intake for next year though.
Not saying that the suburbs of any city in Aus aren't a shithole, because mostly they are, but yeah, far from the worst Aus has to offer. That title is probs taken by the town camps of Alice Springs.
