Like liq said it might look revolutionary but its not. I think for a version one the ipad is quite good but the higher price tag doesn't justifies it. Apple could afford higher price tags on Macbook pros for example for their high quality build but is the ipad really that well made? HP's pad will answer that I guess.

Or the ms courier.

Most people were actually surprised that the starting price was so low. Considering, well, it's apple. They were speculating $999. When the Kindle was introduced it was $399 and it did a lot less.

The biggest L@L is most of them Apple fan-boys bought the pad without even trying it out first. Some simply buy everything Apple-made...
You can listen to music while browsing the internet, or using any app for that matter, on the iPhone, so I assume it's the same on the iPad.

Not true.

Also, at the HP tablet

Not that either interest me in the slightest.  For me, minimum of a few hundred GB of space with a minimum of a 720p screen and the capability to play 1080p content flawlessly.  I'd like it to be a mobile movie player for long trips, with the extra features of music player/internet/apps/etc.

I think it's more for people who like to take their tablet pc and stream movies onto HDTVs.  Why you'd do that when a small hard drive or USB would do, I don't know.

Not true.
It is true (unless you want to use another app that plays audio or something like that). I'm curious as to why you think it is not.

The iPhone/Pad devices are completely capable of multitasking and the OS allows it to be done, but Apple don't allow it to save on battery life - at least that's what all the iPhone developers I talk to say.

Pretty crappy excuse tbh. Disabling multitasking so the battery time figures look good on paper and competition is fierce...

also there is no excuse for the other things mentioned. They made really limited functionality device when only the sky was limit for its potential.

It's not an excuse. Nor is it a decision I agree with (although if they didn't do it they'd probably get a lot of their more retarded consumers leaving apps open in the background wasting away battery life and making them less happy with their purchase).

I'm just pointing out the device and OS are capable of multitasking and certain apps (like the iPod app) are able to run it the background while you are doing other things.

The main omission is Flash. TBH I understand not wanting to use Flash, since it is shit and unstable. HTML5 is the way to go for the sort of content that is currently encoded using Flash.

You said it yourself.  At least from the apps I have, if the app has any audio (even some shitty elevator music as most of them do) then you cant play music while its going.  Thats exactly against what he said, which was

I'd like to be able to control if I want to play my music with any app at all.

iPod Touch, same thing. Plus an ipad is closer to that than an iphone

User battery test are coming in. Most are pretty good. Some even exceeding the 10 hour mark.

Probably not, but if I was on the edge about it, I'd get it with 10 hours, but not with 5. Why? Because 10 hours means I can use it for the entire duration of practically any flight, 5 hours does not.

So...

Looking at purchasing an iPad, but the lack of Apple playing nice with Adobe causes serious problems with one of the key reasons for buying: school applications for my kids.

That said, looking for a bit of advice: Buy the iPad and hope HTML5 support fixes the problems with lack of Adobe support, or wait for the Slate and go with it?

the iPad looks more appealing than the Slate, for your son I would suggest the iPad it just seems more funnier.

the ipad looks like the ipod touch for kids who ride the short bus to school.
