So I've been getting this lately for TF2. Had this issue for about a day straight, and "resolved it" by a clean reinstall. While that worked temporarily, TF2 is failing to launch again for the same reason.

I have norton antivirus, but every single bit of it is disabled. There's not a lot else running on my computer (nothing that should interfere, anyway). It cannot be my TF2, as I literally just got a fresh copy and stuck my maps/sounds in there (it launched after moving that stuff). Other games seem to launch fine.

Puzzled.

Done that, defragged it as well..

I've read through a bunch of articles/forums online, they say steam support is mostly useless for this. I'm going through one of the articles right now but it doesn't look very promising.

I hate that bullshit. Not available? It's on my fucking PC, I know it's fucking available!!!

Steam pisses me off, often.

It's kind of baffling. It worked temporarily after a reinstall which suggests that it wouldnt be the game directory itself, but something attached to it (like the steam app), or something... but it appears not.

I renamed my team fortess 2 folder and tried to start it up for giggles, and it worked. No idea why.

I'll shove my maps and stuff over and see if it still likes me.

Broken again.

Seems something is corrupting my install. I dunno what it is.

Killing all display-related processes seems to allow it to launch. Currently updating video card driver

edit: Driver didn't help.

TF2 will only launch if I close Xfire, DisplayFusion, and Desktop Window Manager. Thoughts? Ideas? I'd rather not have to do this each time I want to play TF2, plus it makes my taskbar look all terrible and ugly.

double edit: I can relaunch DisplayFusion after I've closed it once and launched TF2 and it doesn't seem to affect further launches. The same does not hold true for xfire.

I know BF2 screws up on my PC if I don't "Disable Desktop Composition" in the properties of the shortcut. Try it on the Steam.exe shortcut maybe?

Send <3 to max if it works. He gave me the idea for BF2.

I just disabled xfire and displayfusion on startup and tf2 launched like a champ.

Fuckin' xfire.
