WTF?!?!? the shotgun of the usmc (m11-87) is the best shotgun ever. YOU can rip some1's head of with only 1 shot. And You can use the uber pistol for longe ranges. The antitank mines gives you kills when your not even there. Engeneer is a very good kit.

Yeah Remington FTW, one shot, one kill
I have seen somebody on Karkand when I was on the MEC side, and he was on the USMC side. It was an early patch, I think 1.1. He jumped around the corner and BOOOOM kill BOOOOM kill BOOOOM kill all the time. Then he got kicked for hacking lol. It's still possible but you can't bunnyhop that much now. Noone has even a little chance in a close combat if his enemy is an advanced shotgun user.
I have created a custom map. It's a small Chinese city - pure infantry map. It wasn't supposed that shotguns are T3H pwnerizing weapons there, but again, you can see how powerful these guns are.

The USMC shotgun is the best even though it is pumped (not semi- or full-automatic). The 8 pellets that are fired (in one shot) need to hit their mark, it takes one or two shots to bring someone down. The pellets spread pattern is random and depending the distance....the farther you shoot the pellets (buckshots) spread wider from each other. The jackhammer is not good for a spaz like me. I have been in situations were I am up against two tangos; the Jackhammer empties the whole magazine on one tango...then I am dancing to stay alive and reloading. I haven't tried the sub-machine gun yet (i have it unlocked) but I prefer the standard weapon when I am playing the engineer kit.

FYI - I got a gold medal on the Special Forces aircraft carrier map as an engineer scoring the highest kills with a pump shot gun.

IMO there is a long range solution for the engineer kit...its called a pistol. get good with it and you are then an unstoppable force.

for a couple of days i have played as an engineer and one thing strikes me very hard and that is that the weapons suck so much that it is unbelievable. and how can an engineer survive at long combat when he only has close combat weapons and they suck too. i meet a guy in close combat hes 5 meters away and i have to strike 4 times before he dies and i saw that every shot flew into his torso right in the middle. why cant he not just get an ordinary assault rifle.
Yeah right, the mp7 owns so hard. The jackhammer sucks IMO. But the MP7, come one man!

Dunno if anyone mentioned this but you do have a pistol too. I find that a very effective long range weapon.

the engineer is cool - quickly becoming my fav. the default gun (shotgun) is amazing at close range but at long range you need to get your pistol out. the jackhammer is a cack up grade

When will people figure out each class has a purpose and for that purpose it's fucking awesome?  These people who only play one or two classes just whine about the other classes when if they spent a little time not prone  with a PKM or running around with the shock paddles, they'd realize that hey, this Engineer stuff is useful.

Righto.  I have taken down a smoking heli or two with the pump shotty and Jackhammer.  You can learn the range on those things too, I have taken UNSUSPECTING infantry out with the pump shotty at medium range with a couple shots.  It is gratifying and you know they say to themselves "WTF?!  Where did that engy come from?" LOL

Uh yeah, the pump shotty is insane.  Look at my stats, I have no problem being engineer

Roger that!

That jackhammer on full auto dumps all those shots quick. Thats the ultimate multi target room clearing weapon. I pity the fools in front of that wall of lead. I used that for a while when I unlocked maybe thats why my accuracy is low with the shotguns.

I guess the game counts the pellets in each shot as far as accuracy for hit/miss.?

i prefer the engy shotty's over just about everything else, cept maybe the dao. between my mines and jackhammer/nades, i can almost single handed defend a flag from a directed attack. i hide, jump people and boom they are dead. the pump takes some getting used to. you have to go for the head/torso, and most of the time one shot kills.  i dont like the mp-7, it takes longer to take people out, with the sk12 or the jackhammer, i can take 2 out at a time. the only thing that can hang with an engy up close is the DAO.  also, the shotty is as accurate on your feet as prone. scoped or not. dosnt matter, you just kill the easy way.

i just got my veteren badge in SF for engineer and found that if an enemy is far away use grenades and keep charging forward then hopefully you will already have damaged him a little then finshing him off will be no problem. Just on a side note if your trying to get your veteren repair badge get in a vechile you get repair points a lot quicker...

No offense brother....but if it takes 4 shots with the single-pump in CQC....there are much larger forcces working against you friend.

What's wrong with the Mp7 anyway. it owns the P90 upside down ANY day.

Kickass rate of fire, decent damage, decent deviation.
well now the only difference between the MP7 and P90 are the 10 bullets, the scope, and the reload time.

Well, think about it this way:  The engineer isn't meant to be running around getting into gunfights.

If your opponent has an assault rifle, you should reply with a .30cal.  If he's got a rocket launcher, respond with a 120mm cannon.  In other words,  get in a vehicle.  The whole point of the engineer kit is that you can keep your machinery running long after others have to abandon them.

For example, if you get in a tank duel, it's likely that if you win you've still taken a hit or two, and your tank is on the verge of falling apart.  Now, if you're a Sniper, you probably need to abandon the tank and head off on foot.  Not so if you're an engineer, you just jump out, apply the magic wrench and hop back in to continue the killing.

The only time an engineer needs to have his gun out is when some red-capped lunatic runs up behind you and starts duct-taping high explosives to your rear end.  That's when you jump out and nail him with your designed-for-extremely-close-combat weaponry.  You don't need range, you just need to be able to kill someone who's right beside you.

And if for some reason you want to play as engineer without using vehicles, well, the above comments are all accurate, the shotguns are lethal up close, you just need to be clever about things.  And don't forget that you've got grenades too.  Plus, there's always the pistol badges to earn.  Oh, and you've got landmines too, dontcha'know.  Very handy.

So, loads of useful options there, quit complaining and go fix some armour!
Absolutely spot on!!

I am a pretty good armor "whore" so the only units I need to worry about are ATs.

I was originally really excited about the Jackhammer, but then I started getting slaughtered by the DAO.  Now I've unlocked the MP7 as well and it's a great standoff weapon against the DAO, and almost as effective as the pistol IMO for longer ranges.  I had a head to head battle with a spec ops, both prone and in the open and I managed to take him out before I was down to half health.
My preference now is to use the Jackhammer against non-AT units and the MP7 against the guys with DAOs.  The Jackhammer is also useful for running around the garages waiting for the vehicles to spawn.

You gotta remember, engineers aren't really mean't to be frontline troops.  If they were, they'd have an assault rifle, a GL or nades, smoke/flashbangs, body armour...just think how effective that G36E will be when you roll up in a tank, or how much you'd be loving it instead of mines when enemy armour is bearing down on you.

And the pump shotties are lethal at close range!  The jackhammer is alright for a close-up-no-aiming weapon, and the MP7 is also wicked!

The S12K is a great weapon (of course only for MEC). The Jackhammer is basically the S12K, but slightly better, for all of the armies. If you want ot attack close range - get your pistol out like me! Expert isn't that hard! Also, I am consistantly out-sniping snipers with the pistol! Also, with the Engineer having armour - if you do have/want to fight, you can easily defeat most people with practice!

Engineers are only given a close-range weapon because they're not meant to fight, only to repair and remove mines. Shotguns are for defense, and you'd only need them in CQC, for that purpose they're awesome. First time I used one I got a one-hit kill on someone trying to rush me with the knife. If you aim right they will always get a one hit kill near the head area at close range, or 2 hits at most.
