you likely have no need for Enterprise, plus I'm not a student. But good brag anyway.Doctor Strangelove wrote:

I have W7-64, so I don't think that is the cause of your problem.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

i just dont like paying for stuff that i dont have to
Yup 64bit. And a friend who plays it as well has the same set-up with no issues.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

Have you got all the anoying 'are you sure you want to run this program?' pop-up things turned off?
Well no it's clearly end user error, I just don't know what the fuck I'm doing wrong. When I get home I'm going to uninstall/reinstall.BLdw wrote:

For all that it has worked for, you didn't buy it from steam, right?
Here's what I did -
install from disc (1 and 2 as admin)
try to run game -> "there is a known compatability issue blah blah"
try to run it anyway, won't work
search on forums, find out i might need to download a dx9 update
d/l and install dx9.0c per forum advice on civforums
try to run, tells me i need to insert disc into drive
insert disc 2 (marked 'play')
tells me to insert the correct disc and rerun
insert disc 1 (marked 'install'), get the compatability error, run anyway
loads civ4 screen, then closes.
@phish: i figured if I'm spending $1500+ on a setup I might as well fork out another $100 for a legit copy and peace of mind. Plus I don't like pirating if I don't have to.
fresh install of win7 x64 fully updated
I had the same problem too, though I can't really remember how I solved it. You could try to patch it manually before launching.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

This was my problem, and I bought it on steam.
Can't for the life of me remember what I did.

Plain Civ IV without expansions is not compatible with Vista/Windows 7 unless you apply the latest patch. You will get that message until you patch the game.

good job, we all knew you had it in you
so next question...can i have it run without having the disc in? I have the same issue with BFBC2 and I know it can be fixed, i've just been too lazy to look for a solution.
