PS - I participated in academic debates at the HS and juco level. It's really not something to brag about and I feel douchey for bringing it up but it is light years ahead of this place. Sorry if I don't feel the need to fellate myself because I just read a philosophy book that says something or to show my knowledge about geopolitics. I don't care enough and I get far more intellectual stimulation in RL than I could get from this cesspool.

The internet is just like real life. It doesn't get any better than this. Political debates are run by rhetoric. Academic debates are a matter of spouting off the highest number of sources in a limited amount of time, with no regard as to the weight of the individual points. At a group level everything devolves into a popularity contest. Only at the personal level can some level of greater understanding be achieved from dialogue - those that think the internet is insufficient to meet such a standard are the ones that are too stupid to open their minds and try, idiotically letting their ego run even the most anonymous aspect of their life.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Not worth going back and forth with you on this because you don't have a clue. Academic debate is about presenting your argument. It has fuckall to do with spouting out sources. You don't go into a debate trying to 'win' or show sourced information. It's about presenting information from disparate views so the people attending can have an informed opinion.
I personally don't care how you view the forum or my disregard for a particular section. You can idolize this place as a microcosm of real-life all you want but that doesn't make it so.
