My current car is the Golf Mk6 TSi with the automatic DSG gear.
A friend of mine has the same car except his is the 2.0TDI.
Anyways he was saying that if i change to "S" mode or to "Manual" mode from normal "D" mode while moving damages the transmission.
Is this true? Because I often use the manual mode or S mode to slow down, overtake, going down hills or in rushhour traffic.

My boss's BMW X5 auto can change from auto - tiptronic whilst moving. Dunno about a Golf but I'm guessing it'll be sequential.

I doubt that switching between Sport (S), manual and automatic (D) on such a sophisticated system as the DSG would damage your transmission. I mean, it's not like switching between drives on an old 4x4. Then again, since it's such a new thing, there may always be unforeseen problems with it.

If VW thinks that it will damage it, there certainly must be a mention of it in the owners manual.

About the DSG on another note: Prepare to buy a new front right tire every now and then. From what I've seen on the test tires at work that have been driven with DSG Tourans, all the traction goes there.

I honestly don't see a problem in switching like that in a modern auto gearbox. Unless you go from D to R at 100km/h...

yeah the car is very jumpy.
You have to give jsut the right amount of gas if not the car will either move very very slowly or do a wheel spin at every traffic light.

So i guess no problems then.

I'll confirm that--no problem whatsoever. Since you're not changing gear, it's actually only rerouting the control signals to the tranny computer. Nothing mechanical happens, ergo no damage can be done.

I would really imagine no.... But it really depends on how its all put together.

Probably OK, if not it will certainly say in your owners manual.
