MY computer died the other day, and turns out it was the PSU, currently used one borrowed from a friend. My previous PSU was an Akasa 460w and performed fine on rig for a few years, my question is will a 400w be sufficient for my rig?

Ati 4850
1 HD & 1 optical drive.

Been looking at 400w ones as I wanna spend as little as possible really. Something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … mp;subcat=

Never even heard of Akasa

Corsair make good solid power supplies.

Ebug beat me to it. That Corsair will do far better than anything Akasa has ever spat out.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The one ebug posted will be more than sufficient.

Yeah fair enough, so 400w should be ok then? If so will get the corsair.

400W Corsiar will do, 400W China won't.

I think I have that corsair PSU.
Hell of a lot of excess cables and cable length
'Extra long fully sleeved cables to support full tower chassis and assist with flexible cable routing'
But I got it all jammed in there, mostly in the spare DVD slot IIRC.

Get an OCZ ModXStream Pro. Good for price, it's modular and it's OCZ. I got a 700W for $125 AUD, the 500W model for $79 AUD. I'd imagine it would be cheaper for you in the UK, as we tend to get a higher price for parts IME.

I wouldn't recommend OCZ power supplies. I've seen them use some quite nasty capacitors in them.

Oh. I know they make good RAM and some other components, so I assumed they had quality products across the board.
