I may sound like an idiot, but the topic says it all. Because at release, mines were destructable by bullets/grenades/arty, now they are invincible. So, in real life, are they really bullet proof, or did EA pull another world famous "just because"?

real claymores have a clacker device meaning somebody has to set it off to detonate it. and mines there are many types of anti vehicle mines most are buried so seeing them is not easy. so i dont think bullets or grenades will set them off.

i think a grenade would set a mine off, cause the machines used to "dismentle" mines by letting them explode, dont have more power then it.

olso c4 would let a mine, a claymore, a tank, a building, just about evrything blow up.

"A claymore is made with plastic explosives, which means that it is very stable and can't be detonated without an electrical force. Shooting a claymore does nothing" I found this... so I gues it can't be detonated with c4 either... There needs to be electric sparkle...

U can always your wrench to disable it

Claymores also use trip wires to booby trap an area.

I doubt they're bulletproof - but they're generally hidden so you'd having trouble hitting it.

i thought that when the game was originally released the mines where not capable of being destroyed by fire.  then in the first patch they altered it to allow them to be taken out by fire.  after that they reverted them back to 'indestructable' again in a following patch.

i my be wrong on this, but having played a whole lot of engineer i believe this to be true.

edit [i suppose you could actually find this out by installing the game and not updating the patches.  then load a single player game and find out.]

not really sure. what the properties are in a claymore. But ive held one and seen some mines. they have pretty think steel/metal. a round could pierce it i suppose at close range. depends on the cal. if it is plastic inside, wont go off

You can burn plastic explosive and it won't detonate.

In RL, claymores also wouldn't be placed all over a city.

I'm betting that i were to trow a hand grenade under the claymore charge there wont be any claymore left to explode or blowing it out of my way

A real claymore mine is just a metal-backed box that holds a block of C4 explosive in the back, and a lot of steel ball bearings in the front. When the claymore is tripped, the C4 detonates and the metal back causes most of the force to go forwards, propelling the ball bearings at high speed. The claymore's killing area is a sector 60 degrees by 50 metres (a lot more than BF2 gives it credit for), but it is also dangerous at up to 250 metres in the front, and up to 100 metres behind (thankfully BF2 ignores this little fact).

C4 explosive is a very stable compound. Burning it will cause a slow release of energy, not an explosion. Firing a rifle round into it will not cause it to explode. A blasting cap will cause C4 to explosively react.

I guess it's theoretically possible to use a grenade to either disable a claymore by shredding the detonator cord, or to cause it to go off by shocking the blasting cap enough to cause it to detonate. Either way, once you've spotted a real claymore, you want to move away. Quickly. End-of-Predator style quickly.

Anti-tank mines can be removed by hand (at least by the soldier that recently placed it). I've not been able to find an answer on how they respond to gunfire. Apparently it's not safe to step on them, however. Even though they usually require the weight of an object with more than 135Kg mass, it's still possible to set them off if you're smaller than that. And those support guys carry awfully big bags of ammo.
