Why not?

I mean most of the powder will burn after the bullet has left the barrel so the extra pressure is simply wasted. The weapon won't blow up right? Just massive flamethrower muzzle flash.
The recoil is manageable in a rifle, but a lot harder to control in a lighter less grippy handgun, I guess?

too much pressure can burst the barrel or blow the action apart

45/70=one of the greatest big bore cartridges ever.

.44mag=cute pop gun compared to the 45/70.

A '74 Sharps in 45/70 is on my short list.

Rifle loads are often higher pressure than a pistol can take, if it doesn't blow up performance is likely to be poor.

sometimes you need your pistol to also be a flame thrower.

So what's the verdict?

Should I get a Lever Action Marlin in .44mag or 45/70?

price difference is ~$80

Do you need a rifle suited to killing Grizzly bears?

Are you new to shooting?  the 45/70 is not a beginner cartridge,  but neigher is the .44 magnum in a rifle or pistol.  Have you considered a lever gun in 30/30?

30/30 not available? WAT?!

next to .22 that's the most common level cartridge there is!

That may be, but the shop in which I found lever actions they only sell the 44 and 45/70

maybe they can order a 30/30?

our 30/30 kicks pretty hard though tbh... it's super light though so that's probably why

i need to get a recoil pad for it

I kinda want a higher caliber, I've tried fireing .22 rifles and pistols, and for rifles I think it feels so tame I'd like some kick tbh....

it depends on the shooter, the gun, the muzzle break, AND the two i've shot pushed instead of a sharp kick

Not to mention the fact that the guys in the vid finny posted were sitting in plastic fucking garden chairs rather than lying on the ground like the rifle is meant to...

Make sure you get a rifle you can find ammo for.

Ammunition availability and cost are huge factors in all my firearm decisions.

I don't think it matters much, ammo is hard to get nomatter what over here

Denmark etc.

But I don't know the prices of .44 vs 45/70
