I would think .44 ammo will be much cheaper to buy and reload than 45/70.
45/70 is pretty unusual to find in Europe, pretty sure, it has no real use as there is no big game there.

The 45/70 is not a beginner cartridge.  You need to do more research into your options.

You should look further into either a 30/30 or a .357 mag/.38special rifle. Or possibly a .45 Long Colt.

If .44 mag/spl and 45/70 are really your only options(I doubt it), you should get the .44.

Stronger than the rolling blocks and better looking that the high walls.  they can accurately launches 400+gr. bullets well over 1000 yards, and they look good doing it.  They're simple, strong, elegant implements.

i may have to abandon my plan of getting one soon... i need to get set up for reloading first, as the current price of ammo would break me if i tried to shoot it frequently

I really want a Lever action, and the only options are those two marlins...

So I will be looking into the .44 then..

I really hope the shop responds to my email soon, been 3 days now

Ye

Wish they'd respond to the email though, I'm considering buying it, getting a firearms license and a gunlocker (legal requirement) and start out on range shooting...

It's not cheap though, I could get nearly half a car for the same price ~$1500 for the full package...

That is completely different... That 1894 is NOT as much of a novelty as that thing...

I'd love to have "my" 1894 engraved...

A .44 or 45/70 are not beginners guns, why are you looking at these for your first guns?

Protip: Go to a range - even if it is 300km away - try all the guns, get the 'recoil is awsm' thing out of your system and go from there.
Then get a .22 and learn to shoot.

^ Will be cheaper, better for you and probably more fun in the long run.

How much does getting a firearms license cost?
What is considered a gun locker?
How much are the rifles?

.44 1894 = ~$1000

A gun locker is basically a safe with gun-racks rather than shelves, the cheapest available is a basic white one with room for 3-5 rifles and it costs ~$300

The rest of the ~$1500 is what I've estimated for ammo and misc. costs... I have no idea about the price of a permit, but I'd emagine its reasonable...

Do you have to take a course to get the permit/license?
Can you own handguns?
Can you carry any firearms for self-defense?

I'm always curious how other places do it. We have it so good here in Arizona. We don't have to have a permit to buy, own or carry loaded (open or concealed). Concealed carry without a permit starts on July 29, 2010. No owner or firearm registration. No limit on how many firearms or how much ammunition we can have. No magazine capacity limits. Lockers or safes are not required, but its a good idea to have one anyway. Can buy, sell and trade with other citizens without completing government paperwork or paying fees (a.k.a. the gun show loophole ). The Governor is prohibited from confiscating lawfully held firearms and ammunition during a state of emergency. If we could just get around the tax and registration for full autos, short barrels and suppressors we'd have it about as good as it gets.
