Have fun
800-900 dollar price range....have 4gb of RAM laying around but looking to get 6gb total so maybe a 2 gig stick thrown in but only after all things are assembled if it fits in the price range because 4gb should be ok for now.
Have fun

What DDR RAM is it? DDR2 or DDR3? Do you have peripherals/moniter/OS. And what do you use the computer for?
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 4GHz || 3x2 GB OCZ 1600Mhz DDR3 || 80GB Intel X25-M Gen 2 || KFA2 GTX 480 1536Mb ||| Samsung T220 || Xonar DX 7.1 || AV 40 || P6T Deluxe V2 || Win 7 HP 64 Bit || Lian Li P80
I believe it is DDR2....I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. except OS....debating on whether I should go vista or W7.....the computer is used for gaming mainly.
hehe I should've been more concise with the OP.

win 7 is what vista should have been.
something like that you could go for a 5850 if you want and get a case that you like the look of or if you need some recommendations just ask.
Edit if you plan on ocing you might wanna get a better heatsink even if you dont you might want one.

Vista was supposed to be Win7. Microsoft decided to split the two in order to come out with a replacement for XP sooner.burnzz wrote:

thanks a lot for that.....and yeah I really have no clue about cases at all so a good recommendation would be highly appreciateddill13 wrote:

$35 over budget, but that will run anything today, and for a while to come. Room to upgrade to another 5850, with a PSU to cope with it. Motherboard has Sata 6GB/s, and USB 3.
I picked that 5850 as it comes with free MW2, but you can pick another one, this one is a bit cheaper.
Regarding OS, just download it. There's seriously no point in buying an operating system anymore. If you need help, just send me a PM.
E: Forgot a case, I suggest the Coolermaster 690.

yeah I had already changed the 5770 to a 5850 because I figured I want to get top of the line now rather than later. With DLing an OS can I DL it on the computer I have now and simply burn it to a disk? Because if I can do that it simplifies things sooooooooooo much and lowers the price a lot as well. oh and I didn't need the ram you posted so it lowered the price a littleFinray wrote:

is that 550W PSU enough to power everything? I just noticed that but I don't really know a lot about psu's so im just guessing.

I was looking at cases and I stumbled across this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811119068
Same brand as the recommendation and a tad cheaper

I have that case, and it has wonderful airflow, and it isn't a dust vacuum.farmerfez wrote:

This is the one with a clear side panel, for only about $10 more.

You can download it onto your current PC and burn it to a disk, yes. If the ram you have is DDR2, then you won't be able to use it in that motherboard with that CPU. The PSU is more than enough for this setup, and could run 2x5850s pretty well too.farmerfez wrote:

2x5850s on a 550W PSU?? ATI say on their site the minimum for running 2x5770s is 600W, to be safe at least 700W.
Actually yeah maybe not 2 5850s. But most certainly one. 700W is excessive for two, though.
E: I dunno, I just did a PSU calculator for i5, 2 sticks of DDR3, 2 5850s, 1 SATA HDD, 1 DVD Drive, and it came out with 407W.

well if I don't have DDR3 RAM is there a good substitute mobo and processor because more RAM really doesn't fit into the budget if I go with a 5850
Well after playing around with some stuff I came up with this....
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I think everything is compatible and will work together well....a little above what I wanted to spend but meh if I want that 5850 I guess I have to go a little over
edit~~~
Changed the case from the one posted to this one...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811119203
Same brand, a tad cheaper, open side, and free shipping!

Read the post I made previously if you want the same case in the picture, with a see through side panel.

Yes that case sucks. Also, that mobo doesnt look too promising either. I would go with something like Asus or Asus.alexb wrote:

and after looking at the prices of the cases I just changed it back to the one I had originally picked out because it was only a $10 difference
P55 is a good chipset. I've never used Gigabyte personally in a build, but I know people who have.
This is the rig I built about 2 months ago for about the same price you're looking at.

<3 <3 bevs!
I'm just so glad it was the mobo/RAM. She's been running like a champ ever since.
Im still leaning on the mobo, I think it was killing your ram. I've had it happen to me. Was a bitch to diagnose.Bevo wrote:

Gigabyte mobo's are *amazing*.SonderKommando wrote:
