Hi all

For some reason, BF2 has decided I don't have an X-Fi installed. I try to set the renderer to X-Fi and the quality to Ultra High, but when I hit "Apply" it says I don't have the proper hardware installed to use those settings. What the hell?

i have had that happen to me.  seems that bf2 decides to uninstall my drivers sometimes.  redownload the creative xfi drivers from the site and reinstall them.  then go back through and set it on in bf2.

Try to set it first to "X-Fi", click "Apply" and then set "Ultra High". You should also check if you are in the right mode (Game mode).

ROFL. That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard.

X-Fi is a Soundcard. How is updating your Hard Drive (where data is stored) or your Graphics Driver (not the problem) going to solve the issue?

I suggest the proper coarse of action, making sure your Creative SB drivers are up to date. Re-update if necessary. Reboot. If nothing, make sure DirectX is configured properly...

Start -> Run -> Dxdiag -> Press Enter -> Sound Tab -> Make sure set to Full Acceleration

Wait, so Creative made a soundcard that DOESN'T work perfectly on the most common chipset of gaming motherboards?

If you think nForce is the most common chipset, then your ignorant. Especially since Intel chips dominate the market.

And what market? If you mean gaming, then show me a hardcore gamer that would take a P4 over an FX-57.

i suggest a complete wipe of everything creative on your system (go into the add/remove programs list in the control panel). then dowload the latest drivers from the creative website, install them. then go into BF2, set your driver on x-fi and apply. then set the setting on Ultra-high and click apply. if that doesnt work, try turning EAX on/off.
</trys to overcome the flaming>

this is a compilation of the stuff stated above, but without the personal attacks and flame-wars.

Here ya go, I'm sure this is it:

1.  Click on your "Creative Console Launcher" icon in your taskbar/desktop/programs folder or wherever you put it when you loaded all your X-Fi software with the card.

2. On the bottom left of the Console there's a lil button that says "Mode" beside it.  Click it and then click on "Game Mode."

You should be good now.  If you have your card in Entertainment Mode or Audio Creation Mode then BF2 (or any other games) wont recognize the card completely.

had similar probs when i had my xfi first installed.
first get the updated drivers from the xfi website (for some reason the drivers on the supplied disk didnt work properly)
and like the helpful post above make sure you have it in game mode by going into the launcher and selecting it.
one thing to note aswell, which always is a pain is that (for example) youv just played bf2 with xfi setting on , and then you change the xfi mode to entertainment to watch a movie say and then you go back to playing bf2 make sure you change the mode back to game again or you will have no sound in bf2 (as bf2 sets it to default audio settings). its a pain but hey...

update drivers...off hand the x-fi is kinda weird...your gonna have to go to the creative mode switcher...make sure its on game mode...not creation or entertainment...prior to launching bf2

For the dutch Peops here

Look at the soundcard they explane why not to choose a Xfi (on a Nforce4). I think the cards are just new. So creative must have some time to create some good drivers.

This just hapened to me the othe day when I installed the same card for the first time... The solution was very simple. It had switched out of game mode and  I just had to switch it back and it worked

had same problem when i went from audigy 2 to x-fi

HERES THE FIX

Here's another article from the Creative KB that goes into more detail and includes the files that need to be removed manually, if necessary (I figure even if this doesn't work for me, it is bound to help someone out):

Sound Blaster X-Fi & Battlefield2

If you have installed and uninstalled a previous Sound Blaster card such as Sound Blaster Audigy 2, Audigy or Sound Blaster Live! and have since installed a Sound Blaster X-Fi card, you may encounter an error when applying Sound Blaster X-Fi settings in the game's Audio Settings section. (More Details... How to uninstall Sound Blaster drivers and applications? )

If you encounter this problem, we recommend that you reinstall your Sound Blaster X-Fi drivers as follows:

Download the updated F-Xi series driver from the Creative website
Browse to *:\Audio\Drivers on the X-Fi installation CD (where * is your CD/DVD Rom Drive letter).
Double-click Setup.exe to run the Creative Driver Update Utility.
Under Update Option check the Driver Uninstallation box.
Check the Delete all shared Creative audio driver files box.
Click OK.
Click Yes to the warning that follows.
Click OK to proceed with the uninstallation.
When prompted, click OK to reboot your system.
When your system has rebooted, click Cancel when Windows detects new hardware.
Run the downloaded file SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_07_0004.exe and install the drivers. The other applications that are shipped with the X-Fi may need to be installed from the CD.
Reboot PC when prompted.
Relaunch Battlefield2.
You can now apply Sound Blaster X-Fi settings in the game's audio settings and proceed.
Note: You can also run Setup.exe from the following location on the hard drive C:\Programs\Creative\Sound Blaster X-Fi\Program.

Should the problem persist, you can manually search and rename the following three files in your computer, and then install the Sound Blaster X-Fi again.

CT_OAL.DLL
OPENAL32.DLL
WRAP_OAL.DLL

i did this and all is good now - after i uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them i had to reinstall everything again from the disk...i just repaired them all and it works fine now
